The Role

Step into a hands-on Automation Engineer role at the intersection of mechanical and controls engineering. Embedded full time on site with a major automotive electronics manufacturer, you will support high-volume inverter assembly and test lines — programming and troubleshooting automated equipment, improving throughput and quality, and acting as the trusted technical partner on the floor. You will bring the full strength of Convergix behind you, and carry what you learn back into our team.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as Convergix’s on-site automation engineering resource, supporting inverter assembly and test lines from installation and launch through steady-state production.
• Program, troubleshoot, and optimize automated production equipment including robots (Fanuc, IAI), PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Keyence), machine vision, screw driving, and material dispensing systems.
• Support the electro-mechanical side of the line — tooling, fixturing, fit-up, and equipment modifications — and lead root-cause analysis on downtime, scrap, and quality escapes.
• Drive continuous improvement in cycle time, first-pass yield, and overall equipment effectiveness, working shoulder-to-shoulder with the customer’s manufacturing, quality, and maintenance teams.
• Develop and maintain equipment documentation, standard work, and preventive maintenance routines; train operators and technicians on new or modified equipment.
• Exercise project management skills by developing schedules and budgets in collaboration with clients and internal project management resources, ensuring completion of all deliverables to the satisfaction of the client while fostering a culture of safety.
• Capture and transfer knowledge back to the broader Convergix team, so that on-site learning strengthens how we deliver for every client.
• Provide superior client experiences partnering with your internal team to cohesively deliver a vision, energy, and intensity that exceeds client expectations.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

• Four-year university degree in electrical, mechanical, or mechatronics engineering, or a related discipline (equivalent technical experience will be considered)
• Five or more years of related work experience, ideally within the automotive industry or another high-volume manufacturing environment
• Hands-on experience programming, troubleshooting, and supporting automated production equipment, including:
• Robots: Fanuc, IAI
• PLCs: Allen-Bradley, Keyence
• Machine vision systems
• Screw driving and material dispensing equipment
• Electro-mechanical devices, tooling, and fixturing
• Ability to read and work from electrical schematics and mechanical drawings, and to make sound judgment calls on equipment modifications
• A proven self-starter with a positive, “can-do” attitude who is motivated by solving complex challenges
• Strong client-focused approach, dedicated to providing exceptional client experiences to our internal and external customers
• Ability to multi-task, exercise good judgment and prioritize workload through outstanding organizational skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with highly developed relationship management expertise, able to interact with various levels within the clients’ organization
• Proven commitment to safety
• Motivated and passionate about working with people and overcoming challenges through collaboration and a win-win paradigm
• Ability to work on site full time in Greenfield, IN, with reliable transportation and the flexibility to travel occasionally within the US and Canada

Desirable

• Experience with inverter, power electronics, EV component, or other precision electronics assembly
• Background in industrial or manufacturing engineering: time studies, line balancing, capacity analysis
• Familiarity with HMI/SCADA platforms (Rockwell, Aveva InTouch/OMI) and AutoCAD Electrical

Physical Demands:

• While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to feel objects, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, talk and hear.
• Occasionally lifts or moves up to 25 pounds.
• Work is performed on an active manufacturing floor; personal protective equipment is required and site safety training must be maintained.
