Position Summary

The Automation Engineer II will be responsible for designing, building, and integrating custom tooling, automation, and robotic equipment within a medical device manufacturing environment. This will involve full-cycle development of manual, semi-automated, and fully automated systems from concept through installation. Key responsibilities for the Automation Engineer II include equipment design, build, test, debug, and providing ongoing engineering-level support.

This is an onsite position in our White Bear Lake, MN location.

What You’ll Do Every Day:

• Collaborates with R&D, Process Development, and Manufacturing Engineering to develop initial automation concepts.
• Creates effective designs for manual, semi-automated, and fully automated equipment, including component selection and sourcing.
• Coordinates formal and informal design reviews to ensure designs meet the needs of the internal customers.
• Purchases and assembles systems including mechanical, electrical, controls, and safety.
• Tests and debugs systems to ensure successful implementation into development or production processes.
• Accurately reports and communicates technical progress to milestones.
• Prepares accurate and detailed equipment documentation in alignment with approved processes.
• Troubleshoots difficult technical problems on a variety of equipment.
• Actively supports improvement efforts and works with a continuous improvement mindset.
• Other duties assigned as required.

What We’re Looking For (Medevio) / Your Profile / What is Required for This Role (Heraeus Group):

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineer field, such as Electrical, Controls, Computer Science, Mechatronic, Automation, or related technical field strongly preferred; equivalent relevant education, training, and experience may be considered.
• Minimum 2 years of experience, preferred focus on development of custom automation solutions.
• Demonstrated strong general understanding of mechanical, electrical, and automated systems.
• Strong CAD modeling/design experience. SolidWorks preferred/
• Ability to follow a disciplined and detailed approach to project management and design process and ability to manage multiple parallel projects with varying scopes and deadlines.
• Ability to draw on and adapt prior knowledge and experience to initiate effective solutions.
• Demonstrated strong collaborative communication and leadership skills with the ability to lead independently while working collaboratively.
• Adaptive to change and willing to support a variety of work assignments.
• Knowledge of the following specific brands a plus:
• Sensors: Keyence, SMC, Turck
• Safety: Keyence, Banner
• Vision: Keyence
• PLCs: Horner
• Control Systems: Beckhoff, Delta Tau (Omron)
• Communication: Ethercat, Ethernet, RS232
• Software: Visual Studio, Visio, C++, HTML
• Robots: Epson, Universal, Mecademic

Medevio is committed to providing competitive total compensation and benefits packages. The expected hiring range for this position is between $80,000 and $100,000 based upon a full-time schedule. This is a good faith estimate on the applicable range. Base salaries are determined by taking a variety of factors in account, including, but not limited to, candidate qualifications, geographic locations, market conditions and internal equity. This position is bonus eligible, with a 10% target bonus. Our total compensation package includes eligibility for comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with company match, education reimbursement, paid parental leave and paid time off.
