Automation Engineer

We are seeking both intermediate and senior level Automation Engineers to join our Macro Automation team in Auckland. This role will involve leading a wide range of industrial automation projects across manufacturing sectors, delivering innovative, customer-centric solutions.

The position is based in Auckland, NZ

You will be travelling up to 25% of your time to our customer sites.

What you will do

As an Automation Engineer, you will:

  • Develop and deliver automation solutions, taking ownership of key project deliverables and outcomes
  • Lead system design, development, and technical problem-solving activities
  • Review and improve technical solutions
  • Collaborate with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
  • Coordinate automation project delivery, ensuring timelines and objectives are met
  • Drive success through the project lifecycle (design, development, testing, and commissioning)
  • Travel occasionally to support project delivery
  • Embed yourself into a high-performing, supportive team at Tetra Pak

We believe you have

We are looking for someone with:

  • Proven success delivering automation or control system projects
  • Experience working with multiple automation platforms, such as Rockwell, Schneider, Siemens, and Aveva.
  • Familiarity with functionality development, factory acceptance testing (FAT) and commissioning activities
  • Strong leadership skills and a willingness to support and grow junior team members
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive, ownership-driven approach
  • The ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • A relevant, university level engineering qualification
  • New Zealand or Australian residency with full working rights

The following experience would be advantageous but not essential:

  • An understanding of industrial network setup and design
  • Food and beverage industry process knowledge
  • Experience with databases and an understanding of database concepts
  • Experience with older legacy control system
