Job Description

Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The Autodesk AutoCAD CAD Designer/Drafter will utilize Autodesk AutoCAD to create new design drawings (plans, elevations, sections/details) for construction projects across all engineering disciplines. Will also modify existing design drawings for new project requirements and work directly with engineers and project engineers to develop comprehensive design packages, ensuring a high level of detail and accuracy. This position will work on multiple projects concurrently, collaborating effectively with technical staff, management, and various engineering disciplines. Will also maintain proficiency in required software including Bluebeam Revu, Navisworks, and MS Office. Engages in continuous improvement by learning and becoming proficient in new software and technologies as required, such as developing production-level proficiency in Autodesk Revit to support future project needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and prioritize workload with minimal oversight while maintaining clear communication with project stakeholders. Adapts to changing project demands and priorities.
  • Convert legacy Bentley MicroStation drawings (.dgn) to AutoCAD format (.dwg) using Bentley OpenBuildings Designer.
  • Apply custom proprietary routines within AutoCAD to standardize converted files, ensuring they meet project and organizational standards.
  • Use Autodesk AutoCAD and other Autodesk software products specifically to prepare engineering construction project drawings.
  • Prepare and check engineering design documents, including drawings, sketches, and change notices.
  • Coordinate with multiple engineering disciplines, facility managers, project managers, and project engineers.
  • Build team relationships with technical and other company organizations.
  • Perform site walk downs as required.
  • Attend Tier 1 meetings and be an active participant in the discussions.
  • Complete engineering tasks as described in the engineering work plans.
  • Serve as a consultant to less experienced technologists.
  • Provide practical advice on implementation of solutions for organizational goals.

  • Modify existing 2D/3D models for designs modifications and creation of plans, sections and details for construction drawings.
  • Create point cloud data from e57, fls, & rcp/rcs and /or other file formats.
  • Support all disciplines in Design Engineering.
  • Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 12 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 14 years’ progressive related experience.
  • Proficient in Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in Faro Scene & Autodesk ReCap would be a plus.
  • Ability to pick up and learn new CAD software on the fly a plus.
  • Preferred to be knowledgeable in the preparation of 3D scans, use of a 3D scanner, performing 3D scans, combining scans, and creation of point clouds.
  • Familiar with US National Computer-aided Design standards and its application.
  • The primary work location will be at the Losee Road facility in North Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • Work schedule for this position will be 4/10’s, Monday – Thursday (subject to change).
  • Pre-placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants offered employment with MSTS are also subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment. In addition, Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship, at least 18 years of age. Reference DOE Order 472.2, “Personnel Security”. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Department of Energy Q Clearance (position will be cleared to this level). Reviews and tests for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR Part 707.4, “Workplace Substance Abuse Programs at DOE Sites,” will be conducted. Applicant selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation, required to participate in subsequent reinvestigations, and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified matter. Successful completion of a counterintelligence evaluation, which may include a counterintelligence-scope polygraph examination, may also be required. Reference 10 CFR Part 709, “Counterintelligence Evaluation Program.”

Annual salary range for this position is: $96,116.80 - 144,185.60.

Starting salary is determined based on the position market value, the individual candidate education and experience and internal equity.
