The AutoCAD Draftsman (Fire Rated Doors) will produce detailed CAD drawings, shop drawings and associated documentation for fire-rated doors, frames, seals and hardware used in aviation rescue & firefighting (ARFF) projects and related facilities. The role requires strong selling skills to support commercial teams, solid technical knowledge of fire-rated door systems and materials, and excellent communication to liaise with project, manufacturing and site teams. The successful candidate will demonstrate practical problem-solving when addressing design, constructability and manufacturability issues, and will ensure drawings are accurate, compliant and fit for production.
Prepare and issue detailed AutoCAD drawings, shop drawings, fabrication details, and assembly drawings for fire-rated doors, frames, seals, glazing and associated joinery in accordance with project specifications and applicable fire standards.
Produce accurate quantity take-offs, cut lists and bills of materials (BOM) from drawings to support estimation and procurement.
Collaborate with estimators and sales colleagues to translate client requirements into viable technical proposals; support pre-sales meetings and technical clarifications with clear drawings and persuasive explanations.
Review architectural and engineering drawings, identify clashes, compliance gaps and constructability issues; propose practical, cost-effective solutions and document rationale for client and internal review.
Specify appropriate materials, fire-rated cores, seals, hardware and finishes on drawings and schedules to meet performance, durability and maintenance requirements.
Coordinate design inputs with engineering, manufacturing and site teams to ensure manufacturable detailing and smooth handover to production and installation.
Maintain and update drawing libraries, standard details and CAD templates; ensure version control and compliance with company drawing standards.
Respond to technical queries from clients, subcontractors and site teams in a timely and clear manner; prepare revision drawings and site-as-built documentation as required.
Support site surveys, installation checks and commissioning activities; provide on-site drawing clarifications and troubleshooting to resolve issues efficiently.
Selling skills: ability to support commercial conversations by presenting technical solutions clearly, identifying value drivers and addressing client objections professionally.
Technical knowledge: strong experience using AutoCAD to produce shop and fabrication drawings for doors, frames and joinery; understanding of fire-rating principles, relevant standards and hardware selection.
Communication skills: clear written and verbal communication for interfacing with clients, estimators, engineers, manufacturing and site teams; competent in preparing technical notes and drawing transmittals.
Problem solving: practical, methodical approach to resolving design, manufacturing and site issues; ability to propose alternatives that balance compliance, cost and delivery.
Attention to detail: high level of accuracy in drawings, BOMs and documentation; disciplined approach to version control and CAD standards.
IT proficiency: proficient with AutoCAD; experience with ERP/estimation systems and MS Office applications.
Minimum 3–6 years’ experience producing shop drawings for fire-rated doors, joinery or similar architectural metalwork.
Proven experience using AutoCAD (2D and basic 3D) to industry-standard drawing practices.
Practical understanding of fire-rated door construction, hardware, seals and testing/certification requirements.
Demonstrable ability to support sales or tender processes with technical input and client-facing communication.
Good command of English, both written and verbal; ability to work collaboratively across multi-disciplinary teams.
A degree, diploma or certification in draughting, mechanical/architectural technology or a related discipline is desirable.
