Authorization Specialist

Plymouth Physical Therapy Specialists is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Authorization Specialist to join our team. This position is responsible for obtaining and managing insurance authorizations across multiple clinic locations and all insurance types, helping ensure our patients receive timely access to care while supporting accurate and efficient clinic operations.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain, verify, and maintain insurance authorizations for physical therapy services across multiple locations.
  • Manage authorization requirements for a wide range of insurance plans, including commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, workers’ compensation, and other payers.
  • Verify patient insurance benefits, eligibility, visit limitations, and authorization requirements.
  • Submit authorization requests accurately and in a timely manner through insurance portals, fax, phone, or other payer-specific processes.
  • Track authorization status, approved visits, expiration dates, and remaining visits.
  • Communicate with insurance companies regarding pending, denied, or additional authorization requests.
  • Work closely with front-office staff, therapists, and management to ensure authorization information is current and accurate.
  • Identify authorization issues that could impact patient care or reimbursement and resolve them promptly.
  • Maintain organized and accurate documentation of all authorization activity.
  • Monitor payer-specific requirements and adapt to changes in insurance policies and authorization procedures.
  • Help ensure compliance with insurance guidelines and company procedures.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience with insurance authorizations, medical billing, insurance verification, or healthcare administration preferred.
  • Strong understanding of insurance benefits and authorization processes.
  • Experience working with multiple insurance carriers and payer portals.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple locations, patients, payers, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Comfortable working independently while collaborating with a multi-location team.
  • Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record systems.
  • Physical therapy, medical office, or rehabilitation experience is a plus.
