This is a highly responsible and complex level of audit work where the incumbent is responsible for the performance of audits of various programs, operations and services statewide, including internal and external projects with a focus on effectiveness, efficiency, cost savings, reputational exposure, compliance and financial reviews. The incumbent must have experience as an auditor. Position requires Statewide Travel.

Examples of duties

Three years of experience in accounting or auditing; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in one or a combination of the following: accounting, auditing, business, finance, management, economics, quantitative methods, or information systems; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

A bachelor’s degree plus a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or Certified Government Audit Professional (CGAP) designation; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, auditing, finance, business administration, management, economics, information systems, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license, Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), or Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) designation.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Supplemental information

Job Duties:

  • Developing queries in programs such as Business Objects, Excel, and Active Data to meet audit objectives.
  • Developing and implementing the audit plan, risk assessment, and audit program for each audit.
  • Mapping processes and documenting and evaluating internal controls, as applicable, for each audit.
  • Documenting findings, developing recommendations for improvement, and writing audit reports.
  • Assists in the audit resolution process, which may require communication with outside entities including the Louisiana Legislative Auditor, federal grantors, and CPA firms.
  • Assists in the training of new employees and reviews audit work papers of less experienced team members and performs other duties as assigned by the audit manager and/or audit director.
  • Interprets auditing standards, laws, rules, and regulations for applicability to DCFS operations and provides technical assistance, as needed.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, or Job Appointment. This position may be filled as a probational appointment or a job appointment that may last up to 48 months. Job appointments may convert to probational appointments. Also, it may be filled as a detail and promoted within 12 months or by promotion of a permanent classified employee.

Work Schedule: Typically, work hours are 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Flexible work schedules are available after meeting certain criteria and is dependent upon the position you are applying for. Some positions require working shifts.

Career Progression: Positions may be filled from this posting as an Auditor 1, 2, 3, or 4, depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant.

Compensation: Below is the Special Entrance Rate (SER) for each level:

  • The Auditor 1 (AS 614) $21.63/hour
  • The Auditor 2 (AS 615) $23.14/hour
  • The Auditor 3 (AS 617) $26.50/hour
  • The Auditor 4 (AS 619) $30.35/hour

Louisiana HB 420 requires all prospective DCFS employees to complete and clear multiple background clearances prior to employment with this agency.
