Job Description

CharteredPartners is seeking an Audit Senior Manager to run a portfolio of assurance engagements end-to-end in Hong Kong. The role is delivery-focused, with day-to-day ownership of planning, execution and completion across listed and private clients under Hong Kong Standards on Auditing. You will be the principal client contact on your engagements, supervise field teams, and present findings to partners and audit committees. Specific qualifications, regulatory fluency and technical breadth are detailed in the sections that follow.

Confidential Client. Applying to this position means that you are interested to have an initial confidential discussion about how we can help you to identify and join a new accounting-firm practice. With your authorisation we will exclusively run the entire application and recruitment process for you, keeping you apprised at every step. With over 30 years' combined experience of helping the most talented accounting, audit, tax and advisory professionals to make safe, well-judged moves into rewarding new roles, we have the experience, network and ability to help you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of audit engagements end-to-end, from planning and risk assessment through fieldwork to completion and reporting.
  • Act as the principal day-to-day client contact, coordinating information requests, resolving issues and managing expectations on timetable and scope.
  • Supervise, review and coach in-charge accountants and junior staff, allocating work and maintaining quality on the file.
  • Apply HKFRS and HKAS in practice, preparing or reviewing complex areas such as revenue, consolidation and financial instruments.
  • Prepare engagement files to HKSA standard and ready them for partner review and AFRC inspection.
  • Draft audit findings, management letters and reporting deliverables for HKEX-listed and private clients.
  • Monitor engagement budgets, recovery and billing, escalating overruns to the responsible partner.
  • Support independence, acceptance and continuance procedures in line with firm and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Membership of the HKICPA, or an equivalent recognised qualification with eligibility for HKICPA membership.
  • Strong working knowledge of HKFRS, HKAS and Hong Kong Standards on Auditing.
  • Several years of external audit experience, including a period at manager grade within a practice environment.
  • Hands-on experience auditing HKEX-listed clients and applying the HKEX Listing Rules to financial reporting.
  • Familiarity with the Companies Ordinance (Cap. 622) and its audit and reporting implications.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements to deadline.
  • Proven supervisory and review skills, with the ability to develop junior staff.
  • Confident written and verbal communication with clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Fluency in English; Cantonese and Mandarin are a strong advantage.
  • Sound professional ethics and an understanding of auditor independence requirements.

Preferred Experience:

  • Big Four or established mid-tier training and post-qualification experience.
  • Exposure to AFRC inspections and remediation of file-level findings.
  • Sector focus in financial services, property or technology and media.
  • Experience with group audits and coordination of component teams across the Greater Bay Area.
  • Working familiarity with data-enabled audit tools and analytics.
  • Exposure to IRD tax-interaction matters affecting assurance clients.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.

Next Steps:

This opportunity is open to Hong Kong permanent residents and candidates eligible to obtain the relevant Hong Kong employment visa who match the above criteria. Please apply to receive prompt contact from an experienced and specialist accounting-firm recruitment consultant.
