What is Audit & Assurance?

Grant Thornton’s Audit & Assurance practice provides our clients with valuable insight regarding managing risk and improving business performance. We assist our clients with improving their overall financial reporting processes. Our goal is to help our clients better understand their business by keeping them regularly informed about their financial progress and by discussing accounting, financial, and regulatory developments that may impact their business.

What is Audit Methodology & Standards?

Grant Thornton’s Audit Methodology & Standards Group (AMSG) supports the Audit & Assurance practice in performing quality engagements. The AMSG does this by, among other things, reviewing new auditing and assurance standards to establish methodology for the Audit & Assurance practice; maintaining engagement letter and management representation letter templates; and creating templates and guidance that assist engagements teams comply with professional standards and improve efficiencies.

The Audit Methodology & Standards Group (AMSG) internship is designed to allow the intern to work part-time while attending classes and for the intern to complete winter or summer internships in the Audit & Assurance practice. During your AMSG internship at Grant Thornton, you will be exposed to auditing standards and Grant Thornton LLP’s audit methodology and will assist in updating and building templates and guidance for use by teams in the field. You will have an opportunity to work alongside Partners, Senior Managers, and other National Office groups as a member of the AMSG. Additionally, you will have an opportunity to expand your auditing knowledge and technical research and writing skills, improve your understanding of your responsibilities as an auditor and your ability to efficiently navigate available resources, be involved in office community activities, and build lasting relationships with members of the Grant Thornton team. Your internship will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

• Working on a variety of audit methodology and standards projects.
• Networking with leaders in the AMSG.
• Meeting with your mentor for regular feedback and professional development discussions.
• Connecting with fellow interns and Grant Thornton staff at social events.
• Participating in team-building exercises.
• Giving back to the community through outreach activities.
• Sharpening your leadership skills.

Additional Job Responsibilities Include

• Assisting with content updates and new content creation.
• Testing updates to the audit platform and other tools.
• Assisting with mapping of new standards.
• Drafting audit-related articles for weekly communications.
• Collaboratively working with members of the AMSG.
• Working closely with managers and partners on all phases of the project and regularly communicating about project status and potential delays.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting.
• Minimum overall GPA of 3.0/4.0
• The willingness and ability to work additional hours, as needed, and travel to various client sites.
• Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without the need for employment-based visa sponsorship now or in the future. No visa sponsorship is available for this position

Skill Requirements

• Excellent analytical, communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
• Strong technical aptitude and skillset.
• Demonstrated project management skillset including project planning and time management.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a complex team environment.

Other Requirements

• Generally expected to work 15-20 hours per week (with flexibility during exams/finals).
• Have ability to reliably commute to the Chicago office for any in-person needs, in line with hybrid work expectations (currently, three days per week - prorated for part-time hours; typically, one to two days per week).

The pay rate for this position in the firm’s Chicago, Illinois office is $37.00 per hour.
