CharteredPartners is seeking an Audit Director to lead the delivery of assurance engagements and own engagement quality within a practice in Sydney. This is a senior delivery and leadership appointment in which you will run complex audits under the Australian Auditing Standards, own quality across your portfolio, and support partners through to sign-off. The role combines technical authority with client leadership and the development of senior managers and managers. Specific qualifications, regulatory fluency and technical breadth are detailed in the sections that follow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead delivery of a portfolio of audit engagements under the Australian Auditing Standards, owning quality from planning through to completion.
  • Take responsibility for engagement quality and file integrity, preparing engagements for partner and Registered Company Auditor sign-off.
  • Resolve complex accounting and auditing matters under AASB standards, chairing technical consultations where required.
  • Act as a senior point of contact for boards, audit committees and finance leadership across the portfolio.
  • Support partners with origination, scoping and proposals, contributing to growth of the assurance book.
  • Ensure compliance with the Corporations Act 2001 and ASIC expectations, including audit independence and rotation.
  • Oversee engagement economics, including budgeting, recovery and resourcing across multiple teams.
  • Lead, mentor and appraise senior managers and managers, building technical capability and succession.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Membership of CA ANZ or CPA Australia.
  • Strong command of the Australian Auditing Standards and AASB accounting standards, including consolidations, revenue and financial instruments.
  • Substantial external audit experience, including a period at director or equivalent senior grade.
  • Experience leading audits of listed, regulated or large private entities.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Corporations Act 2001 and the ASIC regulatory framework.
  • Understanding of Registered Company Auditor requirements and the path to RCA registration.
  • Demonstrated ownership of engagement quality and audit file review at a senior level.
  • Strong commercial acumen across pricing, recovery and portfolio management.
  • Proven leadership and development of audit teams in a practice environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with credibility before audit committees.

Preferred Experience:

  • Big Four or leading mid-tier background in the Australian market.
  • Eligibility for, or progress towards, Registered Company Auditor status with ASIC.
  • Exposure to APRA-regulated entities such as banks, insurers or superannuation funds.
  • Sector depth in financial services, resources, infrastructure or technology.
  • Experience managing ASIC audit inspections and quality review outcomes.
  • Familiarity with group audits spanning multiple Australian and offshore components.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.
