The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) administers the Compensation & Pension (C&P) Program for benefits to Veterans, Service Members, their dependents, and their survivors. On October 9, 1996, Congress enacted Public Law 104-275 which authorized VA to contract for medical examinations (a critical piece of evidence for determining the extent of permanent impairment) from non-VA medical sources. This Project is established in support of the VA effort to provide disability examination services.

The Audiologist will provide specialized audiological expertise within the multi-disciplinary team with the primary role of, evaluating patients for audiological conditions that may be attributable to military service. The Audiologist must be able to properly evaluate conditions and clearly provide written evaluation notes via required forms.

Scope of Work

This contract requires private-sector Medical Disability Examinations (MDEs) on behalf the VA.

Provider Training

International SOS Government Medical Services, Inc. will arrange access to VA training for this effort according to the VA requirements.

Disability Benefit Questionnaire (DBQ) Results

The Provider shall upload all completed DBQs to the provided secure website daily. DBQ results, non-DBQ worksheets and diagnostics shall be transmitted through the secure website. Case must be closed within 48 hours.

This role will be responsible for providing audiology care examinations in accordance with established Disability Benefit Questionnaires provided through the VA. No actual audiology work will be conducted.

  • Provide audiological testing and evaluation of audiological conditions.
  • Refer patients for more specialized evaluation if required for proper evaluation.
  • Diagnose audiological diseases and injuries.
  • Ensures that all medical records are correct and maintained.
  • Provision of clinical reporting to Project Medical Director.
  • Ensure best practice in line with clinical guidelines and SOPs.
  • Completes required organizational compliance education, including assigned requirements that are client-specified, for Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.
  • Absolute familiarity with and compliance with company policies and such procedures that are pertinent to the role and to good clinical care, including but not limited to:
  • Consent, confidentiality, and appropriate handling of healthcare records in adherence to HIPAA/patient confidentiality laws. Clinical staff must ensure that they understand their professional, legal, and ethical responsibilities.
  • Maintaining and improving clinical quality through audit and quality improvement activity.
  • Clinical governance. Clinicians should understand their role in the organization’s clinical governance program.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements/Certifications:

  • Licensed to practice Audiology in the US, US Territory or Canada.
  • American Heart Association or American Red Cross Basic Life Support Certification required.

Education Required:

  • Doctorate degree in audiology is required.

  • Audiology experience with adult patients.

Key Skills:

  • Expert working knowledge of the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the audiological system.
  • Excellent IT skills including use of electronic medical records systems.
  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to cope with stressful situations.
  • Strong organizational communication, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Results oriented and able to meet project deliverables.
  • Cultural sensitivity and awareness with the willingness to work with a foreign national patient population.

Physical Requirements:

  • Work is normally performed in an office work environment.
  • Work involves sitting and standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • May require bending, stooping and lifting up to 25 lbs.

Other Special Qualifications:

  • A valid US Passport or Passport from Country of Record.
