Job Description

The Auction Base Technician possess a general mechanical knowledge of all basic systems of a vehicle. The Auction Base Technician is responsible for moving and positioning vehicles throughout company property, including transporting inoperable vehicles to and from the mechanic shop using designated vehicle transport equipment. Replacing vehicle batteries, fueling lot vehicles and changing vehicle tires if needed according to AutoNation Auction standards.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities?

  • Diagnose the cause of malfunction and be able to note recommendations on inspection sheet.

  • Perform needed repairs upon approval from Management.

  • Communicate with Auction Inspection Manager about parts needed.

  • Performing work with efficiency and accuracy.

  • Examining the vehicle to determine if additional safety or service work is required.

  • Record all work to be performed and completing the work order in the Auction System as soon as the job is complete.

  • Stay current in the latest diagnostic methods and service techniques for the vehicles.

  • Become familiar with latest bulletins, service manuals and other service publications.

  • Communicate regularly with Auction Inspection Manager to confirm repair information and diagnostic information.

  • Follow federal, state and local regulations such as the disposal of hazardous wastes.

What are the requirements for this job?

  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • At least two years automotive experience (preferred)

  • Ability to read and comprehend written instructions and information

  • General mechanical skills and must have technical aptitude.

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles

  • Manual dexterity, good judgment and ability to operate power and hand tools and other types of machinery safely
