AU SENIOR TAX ACCOUNTANT

About the Position

We are seeking an AU Senior Tax Accountant to join one of our clients. In this role, you will take ownership of client accounting and tax compliance engagements while supporting the Business Services team in delivering timely and high-quality services to internal and external stakeholders. You will be responsible for preparing financial statements and tax returns, managing client communications, liaising with the ATO, and contributing to the development of junior team members through knowledge sharing and technical guidance.

Responsibilities

• Prepare financial statements and income tax returns for Individuals, Companies, Trusts, and Superannuation Funds.
• Complete Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements (IAS), and other quarterly and annual tax compliance requirements.
• Support tax planning activities, including interim tax work and assessment notice reviews.
• Reconcile accounting files and financial records across accounting platforms such as Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks.
• Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regarding client matters, queries, and compliance issues.
• Communicate with clients to clarify accounting and taxation matters and gather required documentation.
• Attend client meetings and provide support for relationship management activities.
• Draft correspondence and assist with the preparation of client updates and communications.
• Provide guidance and support to junior accountants by assisting with technical queries and task prioritization.
• Participate in team discussions and contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Monitor personal productivity against budget expectations and manage workload to meet deadlines.
• Assist with fee preparation and related client billing activities when required.
• Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge through training, webinars, and independent research.
• Identify process inefficiencies and contribute recommendations for operational improvements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
• CPA qualification is preferred but not required.
• Minimum of four (4) years of experience in public practice accounting.
• Proven experience preparing financial statements and income tax returns for Individuals, Companies, Trusts, and Superannuation Funds.
• Proven experience preparing BAS, IAS, and other Australian tax compliance requirements.
• Experience liaising with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) regarding client matters and compliance issues.
• Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, or similar platforms.
• Strong client service orientation with the ability to communicate effectively with clients and stakeholders.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently with moderate supervision.
• Collaborative team player with a proactive and adaptable approach to work.
