Attorney – Procurement Practice Division
Office of General Counsel
State of Florida Department of Management Services
This position is located in Tallahassee, FL

The Work You Will Do:

The Department has an open junior-level attorney position in its procurement practice division working with the general procurement practice group, which supports the Division of Real Estate Development and Management, the Division of Specialized Services (which handles fleet management and federal surplus property), and the Division of Retirement. This attorney will have the opportunity to develop a proficiency in the state and federal laws affecting these program areas and will provide strategic legal advice and counsel in the areas of procurement, rulemaking, contracts, data privacy, and public safety.

The position may also have the opportunity to assist with litigation for the program areas from time to time.

How You Will Grow:

This position provides the opportunity to develop an expertise in procuring and negotiating contracts with some of the world’s largest vendors. The program areas that these positions support work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, allowing the attorney ongoing exposure to new subject matter and the unique opportunity to assist with structuring and implementing new programs in compliance with both Florida and federal law. As the Department plays a significant role in administering procurement policies for all state agencies, this position allows the right candidate the opportunity to learn best practices from the source and to play a role in continuing to fine tune them.

The Office of General Counsel also supports attorney development by providing Continuing Legal Education opportunities and allowing its attorneys to gain exposure to other areas of the law that the office assists with by promoting collaboration and cross-training in these highly specialized areas (e.g., labor and employment, health care). Ultimately, this position will allow the right candidate the opportunity to gain practical experience and grow professionally while working alongside a team of talented and professional attorneys in a collegial atmosphere.
