This Public Safety Attorney III position will individually litigate moderately complex cases for the Public Safety Section from start to finish in federal and state courts from federal civil rights claims to personnel actions. This position provides professional litigation services, legal analysis, and thoughtful, meaningful legal advice to mid-level, senior, and executive managers of client agencies and internally at NC DOJ. This position is funded by the Department of Adult Corrections, which will be the primary client-agency, but work will also be required for State Highway Patrol, State Bureau of Investigation, and Public Safety. This position may also serve as an advisor to or assist other attorneys in the section on routine and complex matters to provide support and such other duties as assigned.

This is a hybrid remote position, requiring a combination of in-office and remote work.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

1. 5 years of progressive civil litigation experience preferred.

2. Experience in trial courts, particularly federal courts, preferred.

3. Jury trial experience strongly preferred.

4. Legal research and writing experience preferred.

Minimum Education and Experience

Licensed to practice law by the North Carolina State Bar and three years of progressively responsible professional legal experience.

NOTE: GS 114-2 and 114-6 make it the duty of the Attorney General of NC to represent the State of North Carolina in all litigation unless another statute specifically states otherwise.
