The New Inspection Technology (NIT) Engineering Internship position is located within the Inspection and Equipment Innovation organization within ATS. NIT works in concert with stakeholders to identify specific threats or problems on our system; performs R&D and solution benchmarking with industry and other utilities; assesses Technology Readiness Level (TRL) and technical viability; establishes potential use cases with stakeholders; conducts limited laboratory testing, when possible, to substantiate technical viability; determines evaluation pathway (R&D versus incremental project).

The New Inspection Technology Engineering Internship position will provide evaluation solutions in controlled settings to evaluate efficacy, pilot solutions in real world settings to determine efficacy, work with stakeholders to demonstrate capabilities at scale, establish innovation deployment plans, and develop training and qualification processes. Work may range from general technical consultation to comprehensive support from strategic planning through production implementation of new technology solutions.

PG&E is providing the hourly rate range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual hourly rate paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.

The hourly rate for this position ranges from $24.52 to $35.37

Responsibilities

The successful candidate is expected to support senior engineering staff on key initiatives including but not limited to:

  • Analyzing non-traditional solutions for reliability improvement associated with overhead conductor, underground cable, transformers, capacitors, connectors, other components.
  • Evaluate cutting edge technologies to solve specific threats or problems for our stakeholders.
  • Apply basic engineering principles and scientific theory.
  • Perform testing, calculations and analysis under direction of senior engineers or supervisor.
  • Partner with senior engineers and support more complex projects by compiling and synthesizing technical data.
  • Collaborate with leadership and stakeholders through effective communication.
  • Travel may be required; frequency depends on the assignment and is typically less than 10%.

The successful intern will have the opportunity to learn about and execute these activities as described above by working collaboratively with a team of experienced engineers and technicians. Additionally, the intern will gain knowledge of the larger Electric Engineering and Operations organizations through the work they will be performing.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Qualified candidates are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, Materials, Industrial, or Operations Engineering at an accredited University
  • Students must be continuing their education towards their degree during and/or after the internship

Desired:

  • EIT or FE certification
  • 3.0 GPA or greater in both cumulative GPA and major GPA
  • Engineering experience in utilities, municipalities, construction, or engineering consultation
  • Ability to work in a team environment and support fellow team members
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Takes initiative and can work independently with minimal direction
