Job Description

ATS design Engineer - Responsible for development of ATS systems and aggregates in DICV truck platforms. This includes ensuring seamless interaction between suppliers, Daimler internal stakeholders like Entire vehicle, Chassis, electrical, engine peripheral system teams to meet functional, regulatory, and customer requirements. The role demands cross-functional coordination, technical leadership, and strategic planning to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and timely vehicle programs

Design & development of ATS systems

  • Design & Integration of ATS to meet the emission, Customer and market requirements
  • Alignment & finalization of technical target specifications

  • ATS design concept freeze based on first principle calculations

  • Apply design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles to ensure robust, cost-effective, and production-ready designs.

  • Strong understanding of engineering materials and associated manufacturing processes (e.g., casting, forging, machining).

  • Design optimisation of ATS parts to reduce costs, improve fuel efficiency, improve NVH, improve performance

Documentation & Collaboration:

  • Manage and control design data within a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system (e.g., Teamcenter).
  • Prepare and present design reviews, technical specifications, and validation reports to cross-functional teams (e.g., Manufacturing, Quality, Testing, Supply Chain).

  • Work closely with testing and validation engineers to interpret test results and implement necessary design iterations.

Program Management

  • Collaborate with the Vehicle Systems Cross-Functional Team (CFT) to meet Vehicle DMU (Design Mock-up) requirements, including application and packaging constraints, with a focus on achieving Powertrain-specific targets.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, validation, and supplier teams to ensure timely delivery of integrated vehicle solutions.

  • Manage vehicle build planning from prototype to production.

  • Track and implement Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and Engineering Change Notices (ECNs).

Problem Solving:

  • Diagnose and resolve complex design-related issues and failures in existing or new products.

Team & Stakeholder Coordination

  • Monitor progress, identify potential delays, and ensure adherence to project timelines, quality & cost
  • Critically review & provide technical support to the team

  • Interface with suppliers and vendors for integration-related deliverables.

  • Present integration status and risks to senior leadership.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Automobile Engineering.

  • 8-10 years of experience in design & development of ATS system, preferably in commercial vehicles

  • Strong understanding & hands on work experience in design of ATS & its systems, vehicle systems, aggregates, and their interactions.

  • Proficiency in CAD tools (NX,CATIA, Creo, etc.) and PLM systems.

  • Experience with regulatory compliance and homologation processes.
