Position Summary
Forté is seeking a full-time Athletic Trainer to join our Tactical Outreach Program situated on the north side of Indianapolis, IN. Our Carmel Police Department location is imbedded within the Carmel Police Department and works closely with all community employed police officers and administration as well as Forté physicians and rehab staff.
This position involves direct patient care including; testing, prevention, wellness and injury management in an on-site clinic. Essential functions

- Provide onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including but not limited to first aid/emergency care, on-site injury evaluation, application of appropriate modalities, developing and implementing rehabilitation and prevention programs
- Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education, and prevention strategies
- Develop and implement in-field, functional return to work protocols
- Documentation of all orthopedic injuries in the appropriate electronic medical record (EMR) system (Healthy Roster). Includes assisting with any and all mandated workers compensation guidelines for documentation and record keeping.
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills required to work effectively with employees, supervisors, administrative personnel and potential family members as well as Forté Sports Medicine staff.
- Determine appropriate patient referrals to Forté clinics/physicians for formal medical care
- Communicate with physicians, physical therapists, and other athletic trainers regarding the injury status of employees.
- Provide accommodation recommendations, related to work, for returning employees with restrictions or limitations
- Assist ordering inventory supplies and equipment
- Comply with OSHA standards regarding blood borne pathogens
Competencies (Knowledge/Skills/Abilities)
- Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.
- Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to work decisions per state licensure guidelines.
- Attention to Detail: should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff, and families.
- Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
- Must be able to represent Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics and the specific municipality/department in a professional manner, as this position may be performed in public settings.
Requirements
- Degree in Athletic Training is required
- Current or eligible Indiana State License is required
- A desire to work with a highly specialized patient population with high work demands and high expectations
- Prior experience in the tactical field is desired
- Excellent organizational, administrative, verbal-written-computer communication skills to allow for success working in a collaborative team environment
Preferred education and experience
- Experience working with “tactical athletes” is crucial
- Supervision of a athletic training room and coordinating the coverage of large events is desired
- Experience working in a fast-paced work environment is desired
- Knowledge and skills in advanced manual therapy skills is desired
- Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist would be beneficial
- Master’s Degree preferred
- 0-3 years of experience
Possess a strong ability to multi-task and work well with city/government officials
