Responsible for the care of individuals with athletic injuries using therapeutic equipment, techniques, education, and modalities. Evaluate athletes’ readiness to play, and provide participation clearance when necessary and warranted. Apply protective and/or injury preventive devices such as tape, bandages, padding, sleeves, and/or braces appropriately. Assess and report the progress of recovering athletes to parents, coaches, and physicians. Coordinate referrals to ensure seamless continuity of care with appropriate specialists. Advise athletes on the proper use of equipment and correct technique with appropriate exercises. Plan and implement comprehensive athletic injury and illness prevention programs. Develop training programs and routines designed to improve athletic performance. Travel with athletic teams in order to be available at sporting events. Instruct coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, and community members in the care and prevention of athletic injuries. Inspect playing fields in order to locate any items that could injure players. Conduct research and provide instruction on subject matter related to athletic training and sports medicine. Recommend proper nutrition in order to improve athletes’ health, increase their stamina, and/or alter their weight to a healthy level. Treat body parts in order to relieve soreness, strains, and bruises. Confer with coaches & school administrators in order to select appropriate equipment. Accompany injured athletes to hospitals if and when appropriate.
The Athletic Trainer will be required to keep accurate and timely documentation of all interactions with student-athletes, parents, coaches, & other healthcare providers. TJ Regional Sports Medicine currently uses Healthy Roster as its documentation platform.
This position offers the opportunity to provide athletic training services to high school athletes while also collaborating with TJ Samson Rehabilitation Clinicians and TJ Health Orthopedics Providers to deliver comprehensive care.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education
§Bachelor’s Degree
§Must be NATA-BOC certified and possess a Kentucky Athletic Training Licensure.
§Must have BLS Basic Life Support (Preferred upon hire, required within 30 days of being hired).
