Summary

Cary’s Parks, Recreation & Cultural Resources department is seeking energetic, flexible, and highly motivated individuals to join our team as Athletic Aide IVs at WakeMed Soccer Park!

In this role, you will manage and supervise athletic program activities at the Soccer Park, including youth and adult sports leagues, special events, tournaments, and athletic facility rentals. This position requires strong independent judgment, excellent communication skills, and enthusiasm for community athletic programming.

This position requires a flexible schedule with evening and weekend availability.

This is a part-time, non-benefited, year-round position, up to 20 hours a week, with a maximum of 999 hours per year.

Examples of duties

  • Provides on-site supervision of youth and adult sports leagues
  • Handles difficult situations and settles disputes involving participants, spectators, officials, and scorekeepers
  • Opens, sets up, and closes athletic and park facilities
  • Performs basic accounting for money received through ticket sales
  • Fills out accident report and incident report forms, and ensures the accuracy of reports filled out by other Athletic Aides
  • Collects all results forms, accident report forms, incident report forms, and other paperwork
  • Monitors Park usage and takes attendance
  • Assists with preparations for tournaments and events
  • Provides support and oversight for various facility user groups
  • Communicates issues to full-time staff and emergency personnel
  • Enforces Cary policies and provides information on departmental policies, procedures and services
  • Performs other job-related task as required.

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of soccer and some knowledge of other sports, such as football, lacrosse, etc.
  • Ability to remain organized, multitask and work independently
  • Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and the public, both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to interact with the public and participants tactfully and constructively
  • Ability to effectively manage time to accurately complete tasks
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of Cary policies, procedures, and the services of the department

Supplemental information

Education and Experience

Requires a combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma/GED.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess the following:

  • Some supervisory experience in community or group recreation activities in athletics.
  • Some experience working in an athletic facility.

Physical Requirements

Work in this class requires the employee to be able to move about freely and walk unassisted in order to move about the facility. An employee must be able to lift or move moderately heavy to heavy items (up to 50 lbs.) such as trophies, drinks, drink carts, and various other equipment. Visual acuity is needed to read typewritten and handwritten materials and to view a computer terminal. The employee must be able to work outside in various weather conditions, such as rain or heat, for extended periods of time.

Conditions of Employment

Requires possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.

Requires drug testing and background check (which may include criminal history check, SBI fingerprinting, motor vehicle records check, education verification and credit history review) and satisfactory reference checks prior to employment..
