How You Will Help the Team
The ATDM Metrology Lab Technician plays a critical role in supporting an accelerated, hands on training program that prepares students for careers in advanced manufacturing. This position is ideal for a motivated, detail oriented individual who enjoys technical work, problem solving, and helping students succeed in a laboratory environment. The Lab Technician will support instructional activities, maintain laboratory operations, and ensure students have access to the tools, equipment, and resources needed for effective learning.
As the ATDM Metrology Lab Technician, you will help create a learning environment where students can gain practical skills and confidence through hands on experience. Your support of laboratory operations, instructional activities, and equipment readiness will contribute directly to student success and program effectiveness. By maintaining a well organized and efficient lab, you will help ensure students receive high quality training that aligns with industry expectations and workforce needs.
What You Will Do
• Prepare the metrology lab for instruction and assist during classroom and laboratory activities.
• Support curriculum delivery and student learning through hands on technical assistance.
• Monitor, organize, and maintain laboratory materials, equipment, and supplies.
• Assist with laboratory setup and teardown for instructional activities and special projects.
• Participate in recruitment events and outreach activities as needed.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized laboratory environment.
• Assist instructors with demonstrations and student support during training sessions.
• Track inventory and communicate supply needs to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Support preventative maintenance and proper care of laboratory equipment.
• Maintain documentation related to equipment, materials, and laboratory activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support program goals and student success.
• Work assignments may include days, evenings, and weekends based on program needs.
Shift Availability
ATDM Instructors and Technicians are assigned shifts based on training needs. Shift assignments are determined by business needs at the time of hire, performance, and tenure. This position requires flexibility to work any shift as program needs evolve. Compensation includes a shift differential based on assigned instructional hours. This position will support training on third shift.
• First Shift: Classes begin at 7:00 a.m.
• Second Shift: Classes begin at 3:00 p.m.
• Third Shift: Classes begin at 11:00 p.m.
Evening, weekend, and off site instructional assignments may be required.
QualificationsYour Knowledge and Expertise
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Dimensional Inspection Career Studies Certificate or equivalent technical training in metrology, quality assurance, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
• Minimum of two years of experience in metrology, dimensional inspection, manufacturing, quality control, or a related technical environment.
• Experience using precision measurement tools, including calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other inspection equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and GD&T specifications.
• Working knowledge of technical math principles and measurement concepts.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain accurate records, inventory, and laboratory documentation.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with instructors, students, and program staff.
• Commitment to workplace safety and safe operation of laboratory equipment and tools.
Preferred
Qualifications
• Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) operation and programming.
• Experience performing dimensional inspections in a manufacturing or quality environment.
• Knowledge of calibration procedures and inspection processes.
• Experience with Non Destructive Testing methods.
• Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
• Experience using CAD software and interpreting technical models.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other business software.
• ASQ, ASNT, or other industry recognized certifications.
• Experience supporting technical education, workforce development programs, apprenticeships, or industry training.
• Prior experience working in an advanced manufacturing, aerospace, defense, or quality assurance environment.
Essential Physical Requirements
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to stand and move throughout laboratory and instructional environments for extended periods.
• Manual dexterity to operate laboratory equipment, tools, and measuring instruments.
• Visual acuity to inspect parts, read measurements, and review technical documentation.
• Ability to work safely around laboratory equipment and industrial tools.
