Job Description

The Turnaround/Outage Specialist is responsible for leading the planning, coordination, and execution of major maintenance outages across Nippon Sanso Matheson facilities. This role ensures that all turnaround activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in alignment with operational, regulatory, and budgetary requirements. The specialist develops detailed work scopes, schedules, and resource plans while coordinating cross‑functional teams and contractors to deliver high‑quality results. With a strong focus on safety, reliability, Cost Management, and continuous improvement, the Turnaround/Outage Specialist plays a critical role in maintaining plant performance and supporting long‑term asset integrity.

Essential Functions

·Lead full lifecycle turnaround planning, including scope development, scheduling, resource planning, and cost management.

·Coordinate multidisciplinary teams including operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and vendors.

·Develop detailed turnaround execution plans, including work packages, risk assessments, and contingency strategies.

·Ensure all turnaround activities comply with Nippon Sanso Matheson safety standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

·Manage contractor performance, site logistics, and daily execution activities during outages.

·Conduct pre‑startup safety reviews, quality inspections, and post‑turnaround evaluations.

·Track and report KPIs such as cost performance, schedule adherence, safety metrics, and equipment reliability outcomes.

·Drive continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and implementing best practices across future outages.

·Support emergency shutdowns and unplanned outages as needed.

·Performs other duties as assigned

·Complies with all policies and standards

Qualifications

Education:

Associates Degree Required – industrial field plus 10 years of related experience

Bachelor’s Degree Preferred – in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Industrial Engineering or closely related field plus 10 years of related experience.

Work Experience Required:

10+ years - Experience in turnaround, outage, or major maintenance project management within industrial gas, petrochemical, refining, or heavy industrial environments.

5-7 years - Demonstrated success managing multi‑million‑dollar outages with complex mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation scopes. Experience leading cross‑functional teams and managing multiple contractors simultaneously. Experience in safety leadership and regulatory compliance.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Technical Knowledge

  • Deep understanding of industrial gas plant operations, rotating equipment, pressure systems, and process safety.
  • Familiarity with maintenance strategies, reliability engineering principles, and asset management systems.
  • Proficiency with scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and CMMS platforms.

Skills

  • Strong project management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder‑coordination abilities.
  • Skilled in cost control, budgeting, and contract management.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications.

Abilities

  • Lead high‑pressure, time‑sensitive projects with a strong safety‑first mindset.
  • Make sound decisions in dynamic environments.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, contractors, and vendors.
  • Travel to various sites as required for outage planning and execution.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

·While performing duties of this job, would occasionally be required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop or kneel, bend and twist, talk and hear, and use fingers and hands to feel objects, equipment, tools or controls.

·Occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

·Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perceptions, and the ability to adjust focus.

·This role will be performed in office environments as well as in industrial field environments. While performing duties of this job it would occasionally be required to:

oBe exposed to moving mechanical parts and extreme cold (e.g. operating plant).

oBe exposed to outside weather conditions (e.g. cold box valves, filling trailers).

oBe exposed to high, precarious places (e.g. cold box, repair work)

oBe exposed to high noise levels (e.g. Plant rounds, maintenance)

·May also be required to work from a home location, which must be conducive to performing the role and duties, including virtual/video meetings.

· Must sign NDA, have a clean driving record and pass background check and drug test.

Compensation - $50-60 per hour DOE
