CharteredPartners is seeking an experienced assurance professional to join our client in Sydney at Partner level. The successful candidate will hold engagement sign-off responsibility as a registered company auditor, lead assurance delivery across listed and large private clients, and take ownership of practice growth and referral relationships. Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as engagement signing partner on statutory audits, taking final sign-off responsibility for opinions issued under the Australian Auditing Standards (ASA).
  • Lead and conclude on significant audit judgements under Australian Accounting Standards, including the audit of complex estimates and going concern.
  • Own a portfolio of ASX-listed, large private and group assurance clients, managing acceptance, scoping and engagement economics.
  • Originate new mandates and grow the practice through referral networks, intermediaries and client expansion.
  • Provide technical leadership to managers and senior staff, reviewing difficult areas of the file and resolving contentious matters.
  • Maintain registration standing with ASIC as a registered company auditor and support inspection and quality review readiness.
  • Oversee independence, ethics and quality management compliance across the portfolio.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Chartered Accountant with Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, CAANZ, or a member of CPA Australia, in good standing.
  • Registered, or immediately eligible to be registered, with ASIC as a registered company auditor (RCA).
  • Substantial post-qualification experience in external audit, with partner-level or equivalent engagement leadership.
  • Demonstrable sign-off or de facto signing experience on statutory audits of listed or large private entities.
  • Deep working knowledge of the Australian Auditing Standards and Australian Accounting Standards.
  • Familiarity with ASX listing rules and the obligations of listed entities and their auditors.
  • Strong grasp of independence, ethics and quality management requirements for Australian audit firms.
  • Evidence of building and retaining client relationships and of winning new assurance work.
  • Sound commercial judgement on engagement risk, pricing and resourcing.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, with the standing to engage boards and audit committees.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience within a mid-tier or larger firm with a registered company auditor population.
  • Exposure to APRA-regulated entities or other regulated-sector assurance.
  • Sector depth in areas such as financial services, resources, real estate or technology.
  • Familiarity with ATO reporting interactions and the tax dimension of audited financial statements.
  • Track record of mentoring managers towards RCA registration.
  • An established referral network among lawyers, bankers and corporate advisers in Australia.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.
