Job Description
Assurance Managers lead the coordination and management of assigned engagements, ensuring all deliverables meet the highest standards of accuracy and compliance. Beyond engagement management, Assurance Managers play a pivotal role in client satisfaction by fostering trusting relationships and recognizing opportunities to meet additional client needs through available YHB services. Additionally, they contribute to talent development through mentorship and training, and actively participate in firm administration, driving operational excellence and continuous improvement.
Roles & Responsibilities
Technical Expertise & Quality
- Possess an advanced level of knowledge, skills, and understanding related to Audit & Assurance work, general accounting principles, and the technical and functional requirements of a particular industry specialization.
- Follow YHB guidance regarding secure use of hardware, software, and client information; and hold staff accountable for protecting firm and client information.
- Leverage available technical resources and software applications to ensure efficient and effective workpaper organization techniques.
- Ability to thoroughly understand engagement objectives and necessary procedures and to effectively communicate these objectives and procedures to assigned staff.
- Facilitate ongoing education and knowledge sharing by communicating key regulatory updates and changes to staff to ensure all staff are prepared to implement necessary changes.
- Manage the execution of planned engagement procedures to ensure that staff work is completed efficiently and effectively.
- Develop broad-based business knowledge by building on engagement experience and engaging in self-improvement activities to sharpen industry expertise and business acumen.
- Take responsibility for the timely completion of engagements, even under tight deadlines and increased pressure, without sacrificing quality and accuracy of completed work.
- Review staff workpapers to ensure quality, completion, and alignment with YHB procedures and standards.
- Provide feedback is constructive and productive; assign review comments to appropriate staff for corrections with clearly communicated instructions and objectives.
- Maintain advanced understanding of the current tools and methodologies to support and address complex accounting issues.
Professionalism & Service Excellence
- Serve as a positive representative of YHB by demonstrating the ability to communicate with others effectively and respectfully in both written and spoken correspondence and to act in a professional manner.
- Ensure complete confidentiality of all client and firm information.
- Ensure clients feel supported and informed during engagements and throughout the year, establishing yourself as a trusted advisor, and actively seek feedback from clients to improve service delivery and adapt to their evolving needs.
- Demonstrate strong analytical and critical thinking skills by identifying potential issues early in the engagement process and altering as necessary.
- Maintain awareness of new and emerging regulations that may impact clients, ensuring compliance and advising clients proactively on potential implications.
- Ability to express well-informed findings and well-document procedures to build trusting client relationships through clarity and accountability.
Productivity & Business Development
- Follow YHB’s time reporting requirements including timely entry of weekly time for payroll and billing purposes.
- Take responsibility and ownership of work to meet annual billable hour expectations while ensuring high-quality work to ensure appropriate billing realization for charged hours.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of relationship-building as a key component of business development.
- Cultivate professional relationships and expand professional network within the industry by attending networking events, engaging in leadership roles in civic, professional, or industry groups, and leveraging these connections to foster new business opportunities.
- Initiate and identify potential business development opportunities through strategic outreach and analysis of client needs in relation to available YHB service offerings.
- Contribute creative ideas and support the coordination of events, webinars, and other marketing activities to showcase YHB’s expertise and services; and assist in the delivery of proposals and presentations tailored to current and prospective clients.
Continuous Learning & Professional Development
- Actively participate in professional development activities during period of non-billable time such as continuing education, training others, firm committees, and/or firm marketing and business development.
- Complete assigned training courses or learning tracks within the appropriate timeframe.
- Set challenging annual goals and to work through challenging assignments, seeking guidance and mentorship from Principals as needed.
- Build upon current knowledge within industry specialization to increase overall technical and functional expertise.

- Serve as a positive and productive example of Firm Leadership and possess the ability to fulfil all requirements of the Circle Manager role.
- Demonstrate professional leadership skills while maintaining positive working relationships with firm leadership, clients, and team members across all levels.
- Actively participate in the overall growth and development of the Firm by coaching and mentoring Supervisors, Senior Associates, and Associates.
- Empower team members by delegating responsibilities and providing the support they need to succeed in their roles.
- Evaluate staff performance to objectively identify high-performing individuals as well as those who may require intervention such as a Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)
- Appropriately and effectively leverage staff to ensure engagements are completed on-time and within budget.
- Communicate expectations and task responsibilities to engagement staff to ensure thorough understanding of required equipment, dress code, client environment, etc.
Education, Experience, & Other Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Graduate Degree in Accounting or related field (preferred).
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license (preferred).
- 5+ Years of Experience in Public Accounting or equivalent professional experience.
- Commitment and dedication to integrity, teamwork, innovation, and service.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to travel to YHB offices, client locations, and/or training.
