Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As an Assistant Manager - Pre-Delivery Inspection (PDI) at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, within the Paint Shop department of the Farm Division, you will be pivotal in ensuring the quality and readiness of tractors before they reach our customers. Your primary responsibilities will encompass overseeing the entire PDI process, implementing rigorous quality checks, and driving continuous improvements in inspection protocols.

• Lead and coordinate the pre-delivery inspection activities for tractors, ensuring compliance with company quality standards and customer expectations.
• Develop and implement comprehensive inspection checklists and testing procedures, focusing on paint quality, finish, functionality, and safety compliance.
• Collaborate closely with the manufacturing and paint shop teams to identify root causes of defects and facilitate timely corrective actions.
• Utilize data analytics to monitor inspection outcomes, identify trends, and suggest process optimizations to enhance overall product quality and operational efficiency.
• Train and mentor PDI technicians and team members, fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure adherence to health and safety protocols within the inspection area, maintaining a safe working environment.
• Interface with cross-functional teams including production, quality assurance, and logistics to streamline workflow and reduce lead times.
• Proactively engage in problem-solving efforts and escalate critical issues to senior management as required for swift resolution.
• Drive initiatives aligned with Mahindra’s sustainability practices, incorporating resource-efficient and environmentally responsible methodologies in PDI processes.

Education Qualification

The ideal candidate will possess a strong educational foundation in engineering or a related technical discipline. Specifically:

• A recognized Diploma in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering as a minimum qualification.
• Preferably, a Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.) degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Automobile Engineering is highly advantageous, providing a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and quality control principles.
• Additional certifications in quality management systems (such as ISO standards) or Six Sigma would be beneficial.

Educational background should demonstrate solid theoretical and practical knowledge relevant to machinery, paint systems, and industrial inspection techniques, empowering the candidate to make informed decisions during PDI activities.

General Experience

A minimum of 3 to 7 years of relevant experience in the manufacturing sector is essential for this position. Experience should cover:

• Hands-on involvement in pre-delivery inspection or quality assurance roles within automotive or heavy machinery manufacturing environments.
• Exposure to paint shop operations, including familiarity with surface treatment, coating technologies, and defect identification methodologies.
• Demonstrated capability in managing inspection teams and coordinating cross-functional quality activities.
• Proven track record of working in fast-paced production settings with strong adherence to quality and safety standards.
• Experience with continuous improvement processes such as Lean Manufacturing or Kaizen is highly desirable.

The candidate’s experience should reflect a balance of technical proficiency and leadership competencies requisite for managing PDI workflows efficiently.

Critical Experience

Critical experience for this role includes:

• Expertise in conducting detailed pre-delivery inspection procedures specifically relating to tractor manufacturing or comparable heavy agricultural machinery.
• Deep understanding of paint shop quality metrics and the ability to identify and diagnose common paint and finish defects accurately.
• Proficiency in using quality assessment tools and techniques, such as visual inspection standards, dimensional measurements, and functional testing protocols.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to lead root cause analysis and implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Hands-on experience in implementing and improving quality management systems as per industry standards, ensuring compliance and customer satisfaction.
• Capability to interpret and apply leadership competencies including strategic business orientation, sustainability practices, customer focus, innovation, and effective project management as emphasised by Mahindra & Mahindra’s corporate culture.
