Position Summary

Under the general supervision of the Manager of Rehabilitation Services: Works under the direction of and as assistant to Physical Therapist. The Physical Therapist Assistant is responsible for implementing specific treatment programs for individual patients and patient groups according to the principles and practices of a Physical Therapist Assistant. The Physical Therapist Assistant collaborates with the interdisciplinary treatment team.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Associates Degree for Physical Therapy Assistant or equivalent training from recognized institution.
• CPR certification
• Acute Rehab experience is preferred.

Licensure

• Current Texas PTA license in good standing required.

• Physical Activity – Dictionary of Occupational Titles, Strength Rating: M.
• Hazards and Risks – Potential for musculoskeletal injuries due to moving/lifting equipment and patients; potential for exposure to infectious processes.
• OSHA Blood Borne Category I

Duties and Responsibilities

• Applies and operates appropriate department equipment according to department standards.
• Maintains a safe, clean and secure environment with well stocked supplies and properly functioning equipment.
• Administers active and passive manual therapeutic exercises, therapeutic massage, and modalities treatments.
• Assists patients to learn and improve functional activities; including transfers, ambulation, and Activities of Daily Living.
• Observes patients during treatments and complies and evaluates data on patient’s responses to treatments and progress and reports orally or in writing to Physical Therapist.
• Fits patients for, adjusts, and trains patients in use and care of orthopedic braces, prostheses, and supportive devices, such as crutches, canes, walkers, individually and in conference, to exchange, discuss, and evaluate patient information for planning, modifying, and coordinating treatment programs.
• Gives orientation to new Physical Therapist Assistants and directs and gives instructions/monitors to Physical Therapy Aides/techs.
• Participates and/or assists in department performance improvement activities.
• Performs all other assigned tasks/responsibilities as needed.
