Steamboat Springs is known for its small town Western feel, Champagne Powder® Snow, Olympian heritage, and excellent public education system. The Steamboat Springs School District (SSSD) is consistently awarded “Accredited with Distinction” by the Colorado Department of Education and ranked as a top school district in the state. Our schools offer curriculum and academic programs designed to give students the skills they need to compete in college and the workplace. Our mission is to make sure that all students are learning in a safe environment, are prepared to succeed in an ever-changing world, and can apply essential academic skills and knowledge in various content areas.
All SSSD schools have undergone, or are in the process of undergoing, renovation and expansion projects thanks to funding from a voter-approved 2019 bond initiative. Preschool facilities and programs have been added at all elementary schools to expand community access and provide a seamless transition to kindergarten. The bond also funded the brand-new Sleeping Giant School, located in the Steamboat II neighborhood just west of downtown that serves students in preschool through eighth grade.
