
The Assistant Athletic Trainer is responsible for the clinical application and administration of comprehensive health care services for sports as assigned by Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and Student-Athlete Welfare. This individual will be an integral part of the Sports Medicine Team who must build professional relationships with student-athletes, athletic and University department staff, parents, and the medical community. For medical related issues, the athletic trainer works under the auspices of the team physician.
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Clinical application and administration of comprehensive health care services for the assigned sports programs (90%)Coordinate and deliver all medical coverage and services for assigned team including prevention, recognition, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries, acute care and emergency response to athletic injuries, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries and health care administration.
Communicate with Team Physicians, Coaching Staff, Strength and Conditioning Staff, Psychological and Psychiatric Providers, Registered Dieticians, and Academic Support Staff and other essential personal both written and verbal reports on the health status of each student-athlete.
Provide support and assistance with administrative duties assigned to Senior Associate and Associate Athletic Trainers. (10 %)CONTACTS

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT
Environment – Requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
Exposures encountered - Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials. Essential physical requirements: Climbing, standing, stooping, typing, running Physical effort/lifting: Heavy Lifting – over 50 pounds. Required to work early mornings, late nights, weekends, travel, and be on-call as a regular part of the job.QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, skills & ability
Knowledge and clinical skill in the prevention, recognition, evaluation and treatment of athletic injuries, acute care and emergency response to athletic injuries, rehabilitation and reconditioning of athletic injuries and health care administration
A thorough understanding of evidence-based medicine and appropriate current standards of care in Sport Medicine. Thorough knowledge of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, exercise physiology, nutrition, and strength and conditioning principles. Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal communication skills. Adherence to all applicable NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations is required.Education & experience:
BOC Certified Athletic Trainer
CPR / AED Certified for Professional Rescuer
VA Board of Medicine License to practice Athletic Training
Master’s degree is required
WORK HOURS Full-time, Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm. 38.75 hours a week. Schedule may vary. Requires travel.
SALARY STRUCTURE Salaried Exempt, Pay Grade 5 (Hiring Range $43,867 to $58,136 annually)
