
The Associate Vice President for Health Affairs Operations serves as the senior operational leader for the UNC System Office's Health Affairs portfolio. Reporting to the Vice President for Health Affairs, this position is responsible for directing the implementation, administration, and continuous improvement of statewide health workforce initiatives, funding programs, grants, contracts, and operational processes that advance the strategic priorities of the UNC System. This position provides executive leadership for day-to-day Health Affairs operations, ensuring effective stewardship of public funds, regulatory compliance, project execution, and cross-functional collaboration. The incumbent serves as the operational counterpart to the Vice President by translating strategic initiatives into measurable outcomes while providing leadership over complex health affairs programs administered across the UNC System. The position works closely with UNC constituent institutions, state agencies, healthcare partners, and multiple divisions within the UNC System Office to advance healthcare workforce development and other statewide health initiatives.
This position is a hybrid work arrangement and will work at least three days per week onsite at the Dillon Building in downtown Raleigh's Warehouse District. UNC System employees are generally required to reside in North Carolina, within a 2-hour commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
The UNC System Office includes the offices of the President and other senior administrators of the multi-campus University of North Carolina System. System Office staff is responsible for executing the policies of the UNC Board of Governors and providing University-wide leadership in the areas of academic affairs, business and financial management, long-range planning, student affairs, research, legal affairs, and government relations. The UNC System Office also has administrative oversight of a number of University affiliates, including PBS North Carolina, the North Carolina Arboretum, the NC State Education Assistance Authority, and University of North Carolina Press.
Academic Affairs leads in the development and implementation of the academic mission of the University, to include: advising the President and Board on academic affairs issues of University-wide importance; leading strategic academic planning and the implementation of resulting policies; collaborating with chancellors, chief academic officers, and faculty on University-wide academic initiatives; implementing the academic portion of the University's strategic plan; and providing oversight and management of student affairs; data & analytics; academic programs, faculty, and research; digital learning, regulatory affairs, international affairs, and PBS NC.
