Montgomery College seeks an Associate Vice President for the Honors College and Interdisciplinary Programs. The AVP provides executive leadership, strategic vision, and operational oversight for the Montgomery College Honors College, Collegewide Institutes, and student-scholar programs that advance interdisciplinary academic programming and experiential learning across the College. This is a grade 37, exempt, non-bargaining position. The work schedule is 5 days/40 hours a week. This position is eligible for telework 1 day a week. This eligibility is subject to change based on the needs of the unit.
Reporting to the Associate Senior Vice President for Academic Partnerships and Programs, the AVP provides academic leadership for collegewide coordination of interdisciplinary initiatives that span campuses, disciplines, and divisions. The AVP advances institutional priorities by expanding equitable access to high-impact educational experiences, including undergraduate research, global learning, and workforce-aligned experiential opportunities.
A member of Academic Affairs leadership, the AVP collaborates closely with Student Affairs, Enrollment Services, and external partners to ensure that Honors College and Institute programming supports student persistence, completion, transfer, and post-completion success. This role supports implementation of the Academic Master Plan and Strategic Plan by strengthening interdisciplinary pathways, faculty engagement, and innovative academic programming that responds to the evolving needs of Montgomery County students.
The Associate Vice President for the Honors College and Interdisciplinary Programs has responsibilities that include, but are not limited to:
- Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the Honors College and Collegewide Institutes aligned with the College’s mission, Strategic Plan, and Academic Master Plan.
- Serve as an academic leader within Academic Affairs, advancing interdisciplinary programming, experiential learning, and high-impact practices.
- Lead enterprise-level coordination of interdisciplinary initiatives across campuses and divisions.
- Maintain engagement with emerging trends in honors education, interdisciplinary learning, global education, and workforce-aligned academic programming.
- Advance equitable access to high-impact educational experiences for diverse and multilingual student populations.
Leadership of the Honors College
- Provide academic and administrative leadership for the continued development and implementation of the Montgomery College Honors College across College locations.
- Oversee Honors programs, including Montgomery Scholars, Macklin Business Institute, Renaissance Scholars, STEM Scholars, and Phi Theta Kappa.
- Strengthen coordination of academic advising, scholarship support, and transfer planning for Honors College students in collaboration with Student Affairs and Enrollment Services.
- Partner with leadership across divisions to enhance recruitment, outreach, and admissions practices for prospective Honors students.
- Collaborate with Student Affairs to support student leadership development and co-curricular engagement aligned with Honors participation.
- Partner with Counseling and Advising, Enrollment Services, and institutional research functions to assess participation and outcomes related to high-impact practices.
- Support family engagement initiatives that facilitate student transition and success in the Honors College.
- Oversee program review processes related to Honors College initiatives in alignment with College Area Review (CAR) standards.
Leadership of Collegewide Institutes
- Provide academic leadership for Collegewide Institutes, including Study Abroad and International Education; the Paul Peck Humanities Institute; the Global Humanities Institute; and the Institute for Race, Justice, and Civic Engagement.
- Collaborate with Institute directors to advance interdisciplinary programming and experiential learning opportunities across campuses.
- Support coordination of undergraduate research, community-engaged learning, global education, and workforce-aligned experiential initiatives.
- Lead development of regional, national, and international academic partnerships associated with Institute programming.
- Partner with the Center for Teaching and Learning to support faculty learning communities and communities of practice aligned with interdisciplinary initiatives.
- Collaborate with campus and community partners to expand service-learning, global engagement, and interdisciplinary opportunities.
- Support external partnerships in collaboration with Academic Affairs leadership, Pinkney Innovation Complex at MC (PIC MC), the Montgomery College Foundation, Montgomery County Public Schools, and the Universities at Shady Grove.
- Oversee program review processes for Institutes in alignment with College Area Review (CAR) standards.
Institutional Collaboration and External Engagement
- Serve as a visible academic leader representing the Honors College and Collegewide Institutes internally and externally.
- Collaborate with Academic Affairs leadership, campus deans, and institutional planning bodies to align initiatives with institutional priorities.
- Foster partnerships with Montgomery County Public Schools, transfer institutions, community-based organizations, and regional employers.
- Partner with the Montgomery College Foundation to support scholarship development, experiential learning, and interdisciplinary programming.
Operational Oversight and Resource Management
- Represent program needs in operational planning processes, including staffing, budgeting, and space allocation across campuses and at the East County Education Center.
- Develop and manage budgets to ensure alignment with institutional priorities and effective use of resources.
- Establish and maintain procedures that promote consistency, transparency, and alignment across Honors College and Institute initiatives.
- Supervise staff and support the professional development of program leaders and teams.
Data-Informed Decision-Making and Program Effectiveness
- Collaborate with institutional research and analytics teams to define and monitor key indicators related to participation, retention, completion, and post-completion outcomes.
- Use data to assess program effectiveness, inform strategic decisions, and support continuous improvement.
- Ensure alignment between program outcomes, institutional goals, and accreditation expectations.
Minimum Education, Training and Experience
- Master’s degree required in a relevant field; doctorate or terminal degree preferred.
- Seven (7) to ten (10) years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education (e.g., chair, director, dean, or equivalent).
- Five (5) years of full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary level, preferably at a community college.
- Demonstrated experience in honors education, interdisciplinary programming, experiential learning, or related academic initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience leading or supporting high-impact practices such as undergraduate research, study abroad, service learning, or global education.
- Demonstrated experience managing academic programs, supervising staff, and overseeing budgets.
- Experience working collaboratively within a shared governance environment
- Demonstrated experience developing partnerships with external organizations, including educational, community, or industry partners.Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusivity, and belonging, including expanding access to high-impact educational opportunities for diverse student populations.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

$117,402 -$161,443 annually. Initial salary placement for new hires falls between the minimum and midpoint of the range and is based on relevant candidate experience and internal equity. The maximum salary for this position is $205,483 annually.
