Job Description
Guggenheim Securities (“GS”) is seeking a highly motivated Equity Research Associate / Vice President to support a well-established Senior Research Analyst covering the IT Services & Payments industries.
The person will be responsible for conducting fundamental research on both public and private companies, maintaining complex financial models, and supporting the Senior Research Analyst. Over time, the person will develop the ability to effectively articulate the business strategies of covered companies and stock recommendations to institutional investors and Guggenheim’s institutional sales force. The ideal candidate should have excellent writing, financial modeling and communication skills, as well as demonstrate high aptitude for gathering and synthesizing relevant primary and secondary market data. Candidate must be detail-oriented, collaborative, and willing to travel periodically to industry events. This is a demanding but rewarding role with significant career upside, and the ability to convey an investment message through a written research report is key to the success of this hire.
Essential Job Functions
- Conduct fundamental bottom-up research, including but not limited to: analyzing disclosures and financial reports of public companies, and conducting due diligence on companies’ products, sales and marketing models, and competitive landscape
- Aggregate and synthesize data on IT Services industry trends
- Actively monitor market news, macro trends, and stock performance of covered companies
- Regularly draft reports recapping companies’ earnings results, relevant investment themes, events, and breaking news
- Prepare written research reports that summarize the findings of analysis, including estimates of expected business results
- Build and maintain detailed financial models, including discounted cash flow, SOTP, and comparable company analysis models
- Interact with the Firm’s institutional sales force and investor clients, and respond to inquiries regarding research findings and directives
- Regularly update analyst marketing decks
- Periodically assist with survey design and collection, web-scraping, due diligence calls, and channel checks
- Occasionally travel to industry events, represent the Firm in a professional manner, and recap event highlights in timely fashion
- Assist with investor outreach, research distribution lists, occasional firm-hosted events, and contribute to collectively managed team calendar
- Over time, develop the ability to seamlessly communicate investment theses and stock recommendations, and contribute original research ideas
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in modeling financial statements
- Comfort with large data sets and reporting
- Understanding of the capital markets and stock markets, and a passion for investing
- Excellent written and oral communication skills to successfully convey investment messages, ideas, or nuances to institutional investors, team members, salespeople, and/or traders
- Outstanding analytical skills; ability to conduct deep primary research, analysis, and draw conclusions from information
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills and style conducive to building relationships
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; self-starter with a proven commitment to producing high quality work
- Team-oriented, unquestionable honesty and integrity, intellectual curiosity, and dedication to providing clients with the best products
- Ability to deliver under pressure and meet deadlines effectively
Basic Qualifications
- 3–7 years of relevant experience
- B.A. or B.S. Degree required
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Must have or obtain FINRA SIE, 63, 86 and 87 licenses within 6 months of hire
Work Location
- Currently, this role is expected to be in the New York office at least 4 days per week.
Salary
- Annual base salary between $140,000 and $190,000.
- The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this position. Actual base salaries may vary depending on factors such as location and experience. The range listed reflects base salary only, and the total compensation package may include other components such as incentive compensation.
