JD for Associate Tech Lead – Cost Engineering:

The Associate Technical Lead - Cost Engineering is responsible for supporting product cost optimization, value engineering, and cost analysis initiatives across engineering programs. This role partners closely with design engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, finance, and product management teams to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining product quality, performance, and compliance. The position also provides technical leadership in cost modeling, should-cost analysis, and design-to-value activities throughout the product lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

· Lead and support cost engineering activities for new product development and existing product improvement projects.

· Develop and maintain detailed cost models, should-cost estimates, and cost breakdown structures for components, assemblies, and systems.

· Partner with engineering, category management, procurement, and manufacturing teams to identify and implement cost reduction opportunities.

· Analyze product designs, materials, manufacturing processes, and supplier quotations to assess cost drivers.

· Drive VAVE and design-to-cost initiatives through product teardowns without compromising safety, quality, reliability, or functionality.

· Support make-versus-buy analysis, supplier benchmarking, and cost comparison studies.

· Review drawings, BOMs, specifications, and process flows to estimate and validate product costs.

· Provide technical insights during supplier discussions, RFQs, and negotiation support activities.

· Track cost reduction projects, savings pipelines, and implementation status.

· Prepare reports, presentations, and recommendations for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.

· Contribute to standard methodologies, tools, and processes for cost engineering excellence.

· Mentor junior engineers or team members on cost analysis methods and best practices when needed.

Adherent to 100% QDC

Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.

· 8-12 years of experience in cost engineering, value engineering, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, or sourcing support.

Key Competencies:

· Strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal, casting, molding, welding, and assembly.

· Experience with product costing, should-cost analysis, and cost reduction methodologies.

· Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and bills of materials.

· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

· Proficiency with Excel and cost analysis tools like aPriori, TcPCM, etc

· Excellent verbal & written communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.

· Attention to detail & data driven decision making

Preferred Competencies:

· Experience in HVAC, industrial equipment, automotive manufacturing environments.

· Familiarity with ERP, PLM and CAD tools

· Knowledge of lean manufacturing, value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE), and design-to-cost principles.

· Exposure to AI & data analytics tools (python, tableau)

· Experience working with global suppliers and cross-functional international teams.

· Prior experience leading technical initiatives or workstreams.
