Job Description

Provide quality custodial care for attending children, ensuring the emotional, physical, intellectual, and social needs of children are met, and ensuring compliance with all state regulations and department policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

Department Operations

  • Supervises group and individual activities, encourages children involvement, and interacts with each child in a caring and supportive manner, whether in structured or free play.
  • Provides custodial care to assigned group, maintaining the routine of each child according to prescribed procedures, and attending to the physical and nurturing needs of each child on an individual basis. Ensures smooth transition for child and parent at arrival and departure times.
  • Follows established department procedures to ensure consistent and positive child discipline.
  • Completes daily/weekly notes for parents. Serves as a resource for parents and is sensitive and responsive to their concerns.
  • Assists the Lead Teacher with the preparation and implementation of monthly/weekly lesson plans.
  • Contributes to the Center’s monthly newsletter as requested.
  • Communicates regularly with Lead Teacher regarding child participation, progress, and development, as well as expressing problems and concerns.

Quality and Safety

  • Assists the Lead Teacher in creating a safe and secure environment that is orderly, clean, and appealing, and permits the child to grow and explore.
  • Maintains a healthy environment by keeping the children clean and teaching and practicing good hygiene.
  • Follows set standards in food preparation and cleanup, and cleans and disinfects toys, furniture, and equipment on a routine basis.
  • Adheres to all state regulations and accepted practices and procedures of the Child Care Center.
  • Checks children for illness.
  • Reports needed repairs of equipment.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One year of experience in early childhood education setting preferred
  • Minimum of 6 college credits in early childhood education, including 3 credits in human growth and development.
  • Or other acceptable levels of education under NH regulatory requirements.
