The Winthrop P. Rockefeller Cancer Institute (WPRCI) at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock is seeking a manager for a newly founded Cryo-EM Facility. This facility will be equipped with a 200kV Glacios TEM, Falcon 4i direct electron detector, Selectris X Energy Filter, and auxiliary instrumentation for single particle sample preparation including vitrification devices (e.g., Vitrobot and Leica GP2). The successful candidate will be responsible for daily operations, cryo-EM sample vitrification, data collection and on-the-fly processing, and interaction with and training of users. Users will be from UAMS and institutions in Arkansas and the surrounding states.

Minimum Qualifications:
PhD in physics, biophysics, or structural biology
Four (4+) years (Associate Scientist) or
Seven (7+) years (Principal Scientist) of relevant experience including significant project management experience, personnel supervision and editorial and scientific contributions to grants.
Record of expertise in cryo-EM-based structural biology research founded on publications
Technical skills in cryo-EM sample vitrification, data acquisition, data processing and data analysis
Communication skills (oral and written)
Interpersonal skills to enable interacting and training others
Desire to make the cryo-EM Facility at UAMS a successful enterprise
Preferred Qualifications:
Postdoctoral fellowship experience preferred.

Responsibilities:
The candidate should be a motivated and collaborative individual with the following qualifications:
• Management responsibilities for a multi-user research facility
• Experience with cryo-TEM routine calibration and maintenance
• Experience with routine maintenance of accessory equipment
• Expertise with data collection and processing software for single particle analysis, including Cryosparc and Relion
• Experience in training students and staff in all aspects of practical cryo-EM single particle analysis
• Strong communication and organization skills to enable collaboration with faculty, students, staff, vendors, and service engineers
• Keep accurate and clear records to help writing of manuscripts and center-related grant proposals as needed
• Keep up with scientific literature relevant to new instrumentation, data processing, specimen preparation and imaging techniques.
Must have experience in:
• Cryo-EM instruments management
• Cryo-EM facility resource management
• Vitrification
• Data collection and processing
• User training
May perform other duties as assigned.
