About the Role

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced lawyer to join our Planning & Environment team as an Associate.

Working closely with the Planning & Environment Partner, you will provide high level advice and representation regarding a dynamic blend of legal challenges spanning urban development, environmental sustainability, and regulatory compliance.

Key Tasks

Under the guidance of the partner, you will:

  • Advise clients on a spectrum of issues, including land use planning, zoning regulations, environmental impact assessments and protection laws, and development approvals.
  • Manage your own files and assist with Partner files in a proactive and cost-effective manner, including conducting:
  • - research and drafting opinions, papers and articles as required.
  • - chamber matters and trials or instructing Counsel on more complex matters.
  • Navigate complex legislation and regulatory frameworks.
  • Provide strategic counsel to clients, ensuring their objectives align with legal compliance.
  • Negotiate agreements and resolve development disputes.
  • Represent clients in hearings and proceedings and advocate for their interests before government bodies and tribunals.
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably directed.

Qualifications and Experience

To excel in this role, you will:

  • hold a current QLD practising certificate and have solid planning and environment legal experience.
  • have a thorough understanding of land use planning, zoning regulations, and environmental impact assessments.
  • apply critical thinking and have strong research and analytical skills for comprehensive analysis and research.
  • possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build and maintain positive working and client relationships at all levels.
  • have exceptional organisational skills with the ability to administer several tasks concurrently with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
  • be self-motivated and have the capability to work independently.
  • be dedicated to maintaining confidentiality and providing excellence in client service.
  • have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
