A part-time non-exempt Associate Research Scientist will support research and data generation related to sensory aging and function across the lifespan, using multi-omic measures to understand how social, environmental, and life-history factors shape sensory phenotypes. The Associate Research Scientist will work with Prof. James Higham, and in close collaboration with Prof. Amanda Melin, University of Calgary. The Associate Research Scientist will access and analyse samples in CBRU’s long-term biobank, with particular emphasis on organizing, preparing, and shipping samples for multi-omic data generation. Together, these approaches provide an opportunity to investigate how individuals’ sensory systems differ in molecular composition and putative function and health with age, and how these differences are shaped by their social and ecological environments. The position offers opportunities to collaborate on multiple ongoing and planned research studies, develop experience in new methods and techniques, and contribute to dissemination of findings through publications and conferences. The Associate Research Scientist will spend time at NYU and UCalgary for training, sample processing and analyses. The position is available immediately. The position is available for up to 500 hours, for approximately 12 months.
This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date.

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $28-$32 per hour. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) the specific grant funding and the terms of the research grant when extending an offer.
A Masters degree in animal biology, biological anthropology, molecular ecology or a related field. Experience working with molecular techniques in a biosafety laboratory (e.g., DNA/ RNA extraction/ PCR/ Library Preparation/ Proteomics). Evidence of strong organizational and communication abilities.
