Job Description

The Associate Quality Inspector can utilize existing inspection procedures to solve routine or standard problems. They receive instruction, guidance, and direction from others within the Team, and they will leverage their conceptual knowledge of theories, practices, and procedures related to inspection and quality.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect welding and fabrication activities in accordance with Project Quality Plan, ITP, approved WPS, and international codes (e.g., ASME, AWS)
  • Verify fit-up, joint preparation, alignment, preheat/interpass temperature, and welding parameters prior to and during welding
  • Monitor and inspect welding activities, including visual inspection (VT) and coordination with NDT personnel for further testing (RT, UT, PT, MT)
  • Ensure welders are properly qualified and working within approved WPS/PQR limits
  • Identify welding defects and non-conformities, raise NCRs as required, and follow up on corrective actions until closure
  • Coordinate with Production, Welding Supervisors, Client representatives, and subcontractors to ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Perform inspections of related activities such as material traceability, consumable storage and handling, and heat treatment processes
  • Conduct surveillance on welding consumables (electrodes, filler wires, flux) storage, baking, and usage conditions
  • Ensure proper documentation and progressive completion of welding inspection reports, weld maps, and quality dossiers
  • Conduct internal audits and surveillance inspections to evaluate the effectiveness of welding quality control systems
  • Provide proactive input to prevent welding non-conformities through continuous engagement with operations and QA/QC teams

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in welding inspection within oil & gas, fabrication, or heavy industry projects
  • Diploma (minimum 3 years) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
  • Certified Welding Inspector qualification (e.g., CSWIP 3.1 / AWS CWI) is mandatory or highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW, etc.), welding defects, and inspection techniques
  • Familiarity with international standards and codes (ASME Section IX, AWS D1.1, ISO standards)
  • Experience in NDT methods and coordination with NDT personnel is an advantage
  • Good understanding of material properties, heat treatment, and fabrication processes
  • Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills
