Job Description

Quality Engineering Intern

Location: Sr Lanka

Why join Pearson’s intern program?

Pearson is the world’s learning company. We help people of all ages acquire the knowledge and skills they need to be successful in their work and careers. We believe that everyone should be able to keep learning, every day and in every way, throughout their lives. Bringing together everything we know about the science of learning and the latest technology; we’re shaping the future of teaching and learning.

We’re looking for the next generation of talented graduates to join our team for an unforgettable 10-week internship. An internship at Pearson is an opportunity to bring your own unique perspective as a learner, together with your academic knowledge, technical skills, and enthusiasm, to help create products that help fix the skills challenges faced by learners, employees and employers.

As one of our interns, you will gain a comprehensive introduction to our business. You’ll be assigned to a team to support real-life projects that bring our products and services to life and are ready to launch to our learners. On-the-job training and professional development will be provided to enable you to contribute to the business. You’ll also have direct access to a senior member of the team, as each intern will be mentored to help you make the most of the 6 month program. During your internship, you will gain valuable hands-on experience to build your resume to stand out with future employers, such as Pearson

We foster a work environment that’s inclusive as well as diverse, where our people can be themselves. Every idea and perspective is valued so that our products reflect the people we serve — our teachers and students, employers and employees, and consumers and learners.

What Does the Internship Program Offer?

Pearson is offering a 6‑month internship in 2026 for one exceptional Quality Engineering (QE) undergraduate student with strong analytical skills who is eager to gain hands‑on experience in large‑scale software systems. The intern will engage in key aspects of software requirements analysis, test planning and execution, defect analysis, and software quality engineering processes, gaining exposure to quality practices across the software development lifecycle.

Pay rate

The award includes a Rs 50,000 monthly allowance.

You will be eligible for accrued paid sick time per the policy guidelines. Please refer to the Sick Leave Policy.

As a Quality Assurance (QA) Intern at Pearson, you will gain hands‑on experience ensuring the quality, reliability of large‑scale software systems that power modern learning platforms and digital assessment products. During the internship, you will actively participate in requirements analysis, test planning, test execution, and defect analysis, building practical skills across the full software testing and quality engineering lifecycle.

You will work in a collaborative Agile–Scrum environment, partnering closely with developers, product managers, and fellow QA engineers to validate features early and often. This role will expose you to industry best practices in manual and automated testing, regression testing, and continuous quality improvement, while reinforcing strong teamwork and communication skills.

The internship also provides the opportunity to learn from experienced QA and engineering professionals, with exposure to modern test automation tools, CI/CD pipelines, API and UI testing approaches, and emerging AI‑driven testing techniques. You will gain insight into how quality is built into products at scale rather than tested only at the end.

In addition, QA interns may contribute to quality research and process improvement initiatives, helping strengthen test strategies, documentation, and reporting, while developing professional communication skills within the context of educational technology and digital learning solutions.

What does the 6 months involve?

During the 6‑month program running between June and December 2026 (with some flexibility in scheduling), the QE Intern will gain hands‑on experience working on large‑scale software systems while collaborating closely with Pearson’s Quality Engineering and Software Engineering teams.

Key activities will include requirements analysis from a quality perspective, test planning and execution, defect identification and analysis, and participation in quality assurance and quality control processes throughout the development lifecycle.

The intern will also have opportunities to strengthen collaboration and communication skills by working with cross‑functional project stakeholders, both on site and with distributed offshore teams, in an Agile delivery environment.

This position is hybrid, with minimum 3 days (per week) travel to Pearson Lanka office.

Minimum Requirements

  • Currently reading for Bachelor’s degree in computing, Information Technology, Mathematics, Physics or equivalent.
  • The desire to learn and continuously improve on the product quality, performance and other non-functional requirements.
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to interact with prompt and professionalism to the teams across multiple geographies and time zones.
  • Strong technical foundation in Java and JavaScript, with exposure to related tools and open‑source front‑end and server‑side technologies used in modern web applications.
  • Knowledge of database technologies, including relational databases (RDBMS) and a basic understanding of NoSQL data stores; ability to write and validate queries for testing purposes.
  • Understanding of Object‑Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts, software design fundamentals, and familiarity with architectural and design patterns relevant to scalable systems.
  • Exposure to API testing concepts, including RESTful services, request/response validation, and basic troubleshooting using tools or test frameworks.
  • Familiarity with testing practices, such as unit testing fundamentals, test case design, and quality validation of highly scalable web applications.
  • Understanding of Agile software development practices, including SCRUM and exposure to TDD / ATDD concepts from a quality and testing perspective.
