This is a hands-on development role for someone who wants to build the practical skills needed to become a successful Project Manager.

Working alongside project and field leadership, the APM will help keep projects safe, organized, on schedule, and financially on track while maintaining clear communication with customers, vendors, subcontractors, and internal teams.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Project Coordination

  • Assist the Project Manager through all phases of assigned projects, from turnover and planning through closeout.
  • Maintain organized project files, logs, correspondence, meeting notes, and contract documentation.
  • Track schedules, milestones, deliverables, and short-term look-ahead activities.
  • Coordinate with field leadership regarding manpower, material needs, access, sequencing, and jobsite priorities.

Document Control & Closeout

  • Prepare, submit, and track submittals, RFIs, shop drawings, and other project documentation.
  • Maintain current drawings, specifications, bulletins, redlines, and project records.
  • Assemble O&M manuals, warranties, as-built documentation, and turnover packages.

Purchasing & Material Management

  • Assist with material and equipment buyout, purchase orders, release schedules, and delivery coordination.
  • Monitor long-lead items and communicate potential impacts before they affect field production.
  • Coordinate with vendors to verify pricing, quantities, lead times, shipping status, and invoice accuracy.

Cost Control & Change Management

  • Assist with job-cost tracking, budget updates, labor productivity reviews, and cost-to-complete forecasting.
  • Identify potential scope changes and help prepare change-order pricing and supporting documentation.
  • Track pending changes, commitments, customer billing, vendor invoices, and subcontractor costs.
  • Support estimate turnover, project planning, and required internal project review processes.

Safety, Quality & Customer Service

  • Promote a safety-first mindset and support company and project-specific safety requirements.
  • Assist with quality control documentation, inspections, punch-list tracking, and issue resolution.
  • Participate in project meetings and site visits, communicate professionally, and follow through on commitments.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Associate degree, technical degree, bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience in electrical construction, construction management, engineering, estimating, project coordination, or field supervision.
  • Working knowledge of electrical construction methods, materials, drawings, and specifications.
  • Strong organization, follow-through, written communication, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and communicate issues early.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams.
  • Willingness to visit active jobsites and travel locally as project needs require.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with electrical estimating, change-order pricing, purchasing, document control, or job-cost tracking.
  • Familiarity with Bluebeam, Procore, Accubid, Microsoft Project, or comparable construction software.
  • Knowledge of the National Electrical Code and commercial, industrial, or institutional electrical construction.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

  • Project information is accurate, current, organized, and easy for the team to use.
  • Material, documentation, and schedule needs are identified early and followed through to completion.
  • Field leaders and Project Managers receive timely, practical support.
  • Customers, vendors, and internal partners receive clear and professional communication.
  • Safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement guide daily decisions.

CAREER PATH

This position is intended to provide broad project exposure and a practical path toward increased project ownership. Typical progression may include Assistant Project Manager, Project Manager, and Senior Project Manager or Operations Leadership roles, based on performance, experience, and business needs.

PHYSICAL & JOBSITE REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to work in an office environment and visit active construction sites.
  • Ability to walk uneven terrain, climb stairs or ladders, and comply with required personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
