The Associate Director Project Management may serve in a Project Lead role, Oversight Director role or People Manager role within the Project Delivery Organization.
The role involves serving as the Project Lead and primary sponsor contact. The Associate Director Project Management is accountable for the overall delivery of the project (quality, time, cost) on behalf of the organization. Establishes and communicates customer expectations to the project team with minimal direction. Ensures that escalation pathways are adhered to internally and externally. Leads the cross-functional project team to meet or exceed deliverables. The role involves managing project(s) of increasing complexity (such as but not limited to: multi-service, multi region/country, therapeutic complexity, financial scope).
The Oversight Director is accountable for strategic indication or client-specific portfolio management within a Therapeutic Unit. Provides therapeutic expertise in project delivery execution, demonstrating the ability to react quickly and appropriately to escalations. Provokes critical thinking in the Project Lead related to delivery operations, financial negotiations and risk mitigations/issue management for a project. Additionally, contribution to overall strategy development for proposals and pre-proposal opportunities.
The People Manager directs a team of Project Delivery direct reports of differing levels of experience and project roles within a Therapeutic Unit. Accountable for the career development and performance management of their team, providing coaching in both soft skills and technical skills as related to the use of organization systems, tools and processes. Adept at identifying and addressing training gaps, while maintaining employee motivation and trust. The people manager fosters the ability to collaborate and balance business needs with career development opportunities.
What You'll Do:
• May manage staff, which may include interviewing and selection, job description preparation, professional development, goal setting, performance management, coaching and mentoring, employee counseling, and separations. Approve courses of action on salary administration, hiring, corrective action, and terminations. Review and approves time records, expense reports, requests for leave, and overtime.
• May serve in a Project Lead role, Oversight Director role or People Manager role.
Project Lead responsibilities:
• Serve as the primary contact between the sponsor and the organization at the project level.
• On projects where the scope requires, ensure clear delineation in responsibilities and communication pathways for secondary project leads (such as lead in a specific region, lead for a specific vendor(s) or subset of delivery).
• Drive and owns the overall delivery of the cross-functional project (time, cost, quality).
• Ensure financial stewardship at a project level by demonstrating an intimate understanding of the contract, resource alignment to budget, management of Out of Scope activity, drive the Con Mod process/negotiations and team execution to timelines.
• Establish, communicate and manage customer expectations to achieve optimal delivery during the project.
• Drive Risk Identification and Issue Resolution at project level (RBQM/RESOLVE).
• Ensure project team compliance with organization policies, SOPs, ICH- GCP, regulatory and project specific requirements.
Oversight Director responsibilities:
• Accountable for strategic indication or client-specific portfolio management within a Therapeutic Unit.
• Expertly navigate the need to dive in/dive out of situations while ensuring the Project Lead remains empowered.
• Provoke critical thinking in Project Lead related to execution of delivery, financial negotiations and prioritization.
• Provide insight into proposal strategy in prep for bid defense.
• Work with Therapeutic Unit Head in development of business growth strategies.
• Maintain awareness and engage as appropriate in the Con Mod process.
• Communicate with People Manager(s) to support the development of the employee providing expertise and perspective related to client needs, indication and therapeutic knowledge.
People Manager responsibilities:
• Accountable for the career development and performance management of a group of project delivery direct reports in line with The Core People Manager Expectations at the organization.
• Partner with project team leadership and key stakeholders (i.e OD, SLT, BPL, DevOps, functional leadership) to ensure areas of development, training needs and coaching are aligned through routine and active engagement.
• Provide coaching, soft skill and technical skill development to grow our Project Delivery talent.
• Provide support/direction to direct report(s) with regards to knowledge of organization systems, processes and tools within Project Delivery.
• Liaise with Resourcing Leads, TU Leadership and other key stakeholders to advocate for direct report(s), ensuring appropriate project assignment(s) and balance between career development and business needs.
• Foster collaboration and connections amongst peers.
• Cultivate high quality relationships with each direct report to create a trusting environment.
• Participate in Initiatives to foster talent development.
Education & Experience Requirements:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification
• Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 10+ years).
• 5+ years of management responsibility
• Proven leadership skills

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Comprehensive therapeutic area knowledge, clinical development guidelines and directives and regulatory guidelines
• Expert knowledge of the key principles of cross functional project management (Time, Quality, Cost)
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills including the ability to lead, motivate and coordinate cross-functional project teams
• Technical and systems competency, such as computer skills, to include effective use of systems and applications such as Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as organization systems (CTMS, Preclarus, Clarity)
• Proven flexibility and ability to effectively prioritize workload and resources for project team members in a frequently changing environment
• Skilled in process improvement and strategic development, especially as it applies to clinical trials, clinical development and project management
• Ability to coach, mentor and lead global and/or cross-functional teams with a cultural awareness
• Strong financial acumen with an in-depth of knowledge and practical application of budgeting, forecasting and resource management.

• Work is performed in an office/ laboratory and/or a clinical environment.
