Job Description

The Department of Statistics at Columbia University invites applications for a tenured appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, with a research focus on statistics and artificial intelligence. We seek outstanding candidates whose research advances the foundations, methodology, or applications of statistics and AI, including the statistical and probabilistic foundations of machine learning and large language models, generative modeling, and AI methods for scientific discovery. The successful candidate will contribute to teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

The department expects to support the successful candidate with a generous research allowance. The expected teaching load is two semester-long courses per year.

The department currently consists of 40 faculty members and 60 PhD students. The department has been expanding rapidly and, like the University itself, is an extraordinarily vibrant academic community. We are especially interested in candidates who, through their research, teaching and/or service will contribute to the excellence of the academic community. Qualifications

PhD in statistics, probability, computer science, mathematics, or a closely related field is required, as is a commitment to high quality research and teaching in statistics and/or probability.

Demonstrated strong commitment to teaching, advising, and research is desired. Candidates should also evince intellectual leadership and impact on the field and potential for significant contributions to the department, University, and wider scholarly community.
