DTU Management is looking for an Associate Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Sustainable Travel Behaviour to join our Transportation Science Division.
In this position, you will contribute to research and teaching within travel behaviour and sustainable mobility and become part of an internationally recognized research environment with strong links to policymakers, public authorities, and industry.
The position offers a unique platform to conduct pioneering research in Sustainable Travel Behaviour, connected to DTU’s broader ecosystem of technological knowledge and innovation within the transportation sector.
The Transportation Division is an internationally recognized research environment with strong expertise in transport and mobility. Our interdisciplinary team brings together researchers from fields such as engineering, economics, psychology, data science, computer science, mathematics, and statistics.
We deliver ground-breaking fundamental research as well as research-based insights and tools for policymakers and industry. We collaborate closely with research communities in Denmark and abroad, and with Danish authorities. This includes a large on-going contract with the Ministry of Transport, under which we provide policy support to solve the great challenges in the transport sector. This includes responsibility for the national travel survey.
Human behaviour and its underlying drivers are embedded throughout our research on transport systems and mobility. Our research creates a foundation for policy support related to key challenges in the sector, such as the green transition, mobility for all user groups, congestion and pressured land use both in large cities and rural settings; equity, safety, and risk; and derived negative externalities of transport.
The overarching focus of the position is understanding human mobility and sustainable travel behaviour when planning transportation systems. This should also be seen in a broader context understanding how urban and rural surroundings influence travel behaviour, and based upon this formulating policies and regulations for more sustainable mobility.

We seek an Associate Professor or Tenure Track Assistant Professor who can advance research and practice on travel behaviour, deepening our understanding of behaviour, preferences, and choices, and their underlying drivers. You have a strong track record in research at an international level.
Over the years, we expect you to develop academic leadership, attract external funding, teach undergraduate and graduate students, strengthen our research-based advice, and contribute to a fruitful environment based on the position. Particular emphasis will be on public sector support, scientific advice, and societal impact on the transport domain.
You will bring the following:
As a candidate, you should have a high potential for creative and independent research, willingness to collaborate and interact with other researchers, the ability to teach courses at different levels, to engage in scientific advice and to disseminate research in seminars, conferences and in the classroom, as well as to the wider public. You will also be responsible for the teaching of student courses.
DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and with time are expected to master both.
As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent). If you are applying for the associate professor position you should also have academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.
