Job Description

Work across biomedical engineering, biology and human physiology while shaping a research group and a degree programme. Anchored in DTU Health Tech’s Drug Delivery and Sensing section (IDUN), this part-time (50%) Associate Professorship combines Group Leader and engagement in design of the BSc programme in Medicine and Technology. Through the Technical University Hospital (TUH) ecosystem, you will connect DTU, University of Copenhagen and regional hospitals, turning clinical needs into research, education and innovation.

Responsibilities and qualifications

Your research will bridge biological function and clinical needs with engineered solutions. Biomedical interfaces may include ingestible and implantable devices, sensing and actuation systems, and technologies supporting robot-assisted or minimally invasive procedures. Work may span anatomical phantoms and ex vivo tissue models to in vivo preclinical studies, with AI and data-driven methods integrated into systems.

The position includes;

  • Establish and lead a research group, including building the team, secure external funding and establish and maintain international collaborations.
  • Engage in the development of BSc in Medicine and Technology at DTU, including bringing clinical workflows, systems engineering and device innovation into the curriculum through collaboration with UCPH and hospital partners in the TUH (Technical University Hospital) organization.
  • Build clinical, engineering and industry partnerships and translational infrastructure, moving research toward clinical utility and new MedTech ventures.

We seek an academic leader whose education and career span includes both engineering and medicine. You must have a background in Medicine and Technology, or an equivalent biomedical engineering background with substantial experience within biology and human physiology.

Other expected qualifications are:

  • A strong record at the biology–physiology–engineering interface, including translational MedTech research and preclinical validation
  • Experience with educational leadership and development of medical education or related health-technology education, preferably connected to Medicine and Technology or a comparable interdisciplinary programme
  • Research experience across technical, medical and hospital environments, including experience in research management, supervision of students, securing external funding, innovation, and dissemination

As formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent) as well as academic qualifications equivalent to those obtained by holding an assistant professorship and documented didactic/pedagogic training.

Salary and terms of employment

The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The position is part-time (50%), with starting date as soon as possible or by agreement.
