Job Description

Located in a tight-knit community in Kings County, Adventist Health Hanford has been serving the Central Valley since 1965. Works under the direction of the Patient Care Executive (PCE) to design, implement and sustain system structures and processes, ensuring excellence in professional nursing practice and patient quality care. Assists the PCE in the oversight of day-to day-operations, short and long-range planning, fiscal management, human resources, and effective quality improvement and quality control processes. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel utilizing both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing, business, or other healthcare related field or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Ten years' technical experience: Preferred
  • Five years' leadership experience: Preferred
  • Leadership experience in an acute/inpatient hospital setting: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice: Required
  • Nursing Executive Board certification obtained within the first 24 months of hire: Required
  • ANCC-NE: Required

Facility Specific License/Certifications:

  • AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS: Required

Essential Functions:

  • Assists in developing, directing, recommending, implementing and evaluating hospital policies/procedures and standards of care related to the delivery of safe, quality, efficient and effective patient care. Establishes operational objectives including issuing work plans and delegating items to team. Assists with maintaining necessary regulatory and compliance approvals and quality accreditations. Assists PCE in providing leadership to nurse employees to enroll their support, create ownership of goals and participate in decisions impacting the organization. Partners with physicians using inpatient/outpatient services.
  • Assists the Directors of Quality Management , Risk and Compliance in coordinating and overseeing the development/implementation of quality patient safety standards of care including Core Measures, SCIP, Patient Satisfaction and National Patient Safety Goals, and Education of Charge Nurses/ Nursing Management Team. Works within broad guidelines and applies advanced technical knowledge of multiple departments to solve highly complex problems. Creates an environment that encourages recruiting and retention of clinical employees. Assists with managing costs by continually seeking data that identifies opportunities to eliminate non-value costs, and taking action on identified data.
  • Develops structures and processes with department leadership that reflect a shared governance model of nursing. Integrates systems and responsibilities with other departments that provide direct care and/or support to nursing. Develops organizational patient care programs, policies and procedures that describe how nursing care is assessed, delivered and evaluated. Assists PCE in developing and managing nursing services budget. Plans and provides nursing care interventions to prevent complications, promote patient comfort, improvement and wellness. Assists with establishing standards for nursing practices and maintains authority, accountability and responsibility for nursing services.
  • Manages House Supervisors, Staffing Specialists, Contract Dialysis, and other Registered Nurses (RN) contracted services. Holds Nursing Leadership accountable for operational and productivity management. Analyzes areas in planning, promoting and conducting organization-wide performance improvement activities. Participates with department heads in designing/providing quality care for optimum patient experience. Acts in the absence of PCE. Provides leadership to directors, managers and nursing staff. Assists the PCE in implementing innovative delivery models to support patient care quality and safety. Assists with building an engaged nursing workforce.
  • Collaborates with the Education Department regarding annual education plan and annual competencies. Assists in assessment of ongoing education needs of the nursing departments in collaboration with the Nursing Practice Specialists. Provides strategic direction and oversees accountability for quality, safety and patient satisfaction performance of departments to achieve expected targets. Assists with maintaining overall control of planning, staffing, budgeting and expense priorities. Maintains accountability for creating a programmatic focus that centers on integration, standardization, consolidation and collaboration of services. Assists PCE in leading nursing services through strategic assessment, planning and implementation.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
