Job Description

The Department of Health Services, Policy & Practice within the School of Public Health at Brown University invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor position on the Research Scholar Track. The start date for the position is July 1, 2026, but is negotiable with the successful candidate.

There are two foci for this search. The first is researchers who examine how financing shapes health outcomes and policy priorities. These would include large scale data analyses and economic methods to inform debates on health funding, efficiency, and equity. Applicants engaged in research related to payment reform, Medicare Advantage, Traditional Medicare, health care prices, integration and consolidation, and policy evaluation are of interest. We would expect that candidates with this area of interest would work with other faculty in the Center for Advancing Health Policy through Research.

The second is researchers with expertise in public opinion polling related to public health. This would include studies who examine how the public perceives and responds to major health threats and policies such as infectious diseases, vaccines, health policy changes, climate change, and substance use disorders.

Applicants must have a doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DrPH) and experience in health services research. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated track record of scholarly activity and are at the Associate or Full Professor level.

The successful candidate will likely be appointed within the Department of Health Services, Policy & Practice, one of the four departments in the Brown University School of Public Health. It is the home of a PhD program in Health Services Research. Faculty may work closely with these trainees. The Department includes researchers interested in a wide variety of health services research topics, including Medicare and Medicaid policy, gerontology, post-acute and long-term care, pharmacoepidemiology, evidence-based medicine, health economics, and health care disparities.
