Job Description

Under limited supervision and input from supervisor, the Pilot Plant Operator must be able to operate all process equipment associated with Pilot Plant in order to meet requirements stated in Standard Operating Procedures and instructions in Run Sheets. Operating the pilot plant Includes monitoring and evaluating process values, analytical sample results and making changes and/or corrections to maintain experimental parameters and safety of the unit and equipment.

  • This position will involve a significant amount of experimentation and the successful candidate is expected to perform work at a high level of safety and accuracy independently of others.
  • Collecting experimental data, maintaining records, and communicate results to other operators and R&D team.
  • Generate new ideas to improve Celanese technology and R&D testing capabilities.
  • Active participation in the R&D Safety Programs
  • Maintain full operation qualifications for unit through progression program

Responsibilities

  • Strong process improvement & Safety mentality
  • Basic understanding of process chemistry principles
  • Knowledge of pilot- and lab-scale high pressure systems and connectors
  • Multitask to support multiple units or other R&D work as necessary
  • Maintain paper and electronic logs associated with unit operation
  • Excellent mechanical skills (e.g. lab tube fitting, equipment assembly, and troubleshooting)
  • Good mechanical aptitude in order to maintain the necessary equipment, including: troubleshooting, repair, maintenance, and calibration.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and organizational skills
  • Proven experience working within a team environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software: Word, PowerPoint, Excel
  • Provide operations input for safety studies such as process hazard analyses and management of change
  • High attention to detail
  • Position requires working a 12-hour rotating shift (including evenings and weekends and holidays) and overtime when required.
  • Self-motivated

Qualifications

  • Ability to read and understand technical drawings (P&IDs)
  • Knowledge of Pi ProcessBook
  • Experience with operating process control software, (i.e. Experion, Labview)
  • Experience in the following areas would be beneficial: distillation and mixing of solutions
  • Conduct routine analytical tests using gas chromatography and titrations
  • Design and construction of small scale laboratory units, (i.e. tube bending, working with glassware, 16 pack gas cylinders)
  • 5+ years of experience in chemical or petrochemical facility

Required Education:

High school diploma or equivalent
