Job Description


Play a hands-on role in keeping Napier’s essential water infrastructure running smoothly. This is a great opportunity to build on your experience across operations, asset management, and project work while seeing the real impact of what you do across the city.

As an Associate Operations Engineer, you’ll support the day-to-day performance of our 3 Waters infrastructure. Working alongside engineers, contractors, and operational teams, you’ll take a practical approach to problem-solving, planning, and improving how our services are delivered.

Te Āheinga - The Opportunity

  • Support the operation of Napier’s 3 Waters infrastructure through practical, solution-focused technical advice

  • Investigate asset performance issues and contribute to effective, fit-for-purpose solutions

  • Assist with asset condition assessments, maintenance planning, and performance monitoring

  • Plan and coordinate detailed surveys of 3 Waters infrastructure

  • Work closely with contractors and City Services teams to support operational delivery

  • Raise purchase orders, track work, and assist with invoice and data management processes

  • Identify opportunities for operational improvements and small capital works projects

  • Coordinate and support minor projects, including tracking progress and reporting

  • Provide support during operational incidents when required

He kōrero mōhou - About You

  • A Diploma in Engineering and a current driver’s licence

  • Around 2+ years’ experience in infrastructure, utilities, or a similar hands-on environment

  • A sound understanding of 3 Waters infrastructure and operational activities

  • Practical knowledge of tools, equipment, and field-based work

  • Strong organisational and administrative skills, with attention to detail

  • Confident working with contractors and a range of stakeholders

  • A flexible, solutions-focused approach and the ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment

  • Solid computer skills, including Microsoft Office

This is a permanent, full-time position working 40 hours a week in Napier CBD. The pay range for this role is $79,091 - $93,048 (including KiwiSaver), with the final offer depending on your skills and experience.
