As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the delivery of technically complex building services projects while providing leadership, mentorship, and project direction within a collaborative design environment. You will manage medium‑sized, complex projects with a high degree of independence, contribute to technical excellence across the portfolio, and build trusted relationships with clients and external stakeholders. This role suits a well‑rounded technical contributor with strong commercial awareness and a growing interest in project leadership and business development.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical services project delivery from initial concept development through to fully detailed design. Tasks will include undertaking or overseeing heating and cooling load calculations, preparing HVAC layouts and coordinating drafting, preparing equipment selections, compliance reviews, and development of technical specifications
  • Handle complex tasks, including system‑level design, with a high degree of independence.
  • Apply strong engineering knowledge and collaborate effectively across multiple disciplines. Co-ordinate mechanical requirements with other disciplines involved in the project design team
  • Provide construction administration services
  • Manage medium‑sized, complex projects including financial tracking of project performance and seeking project variations as required.
  • Actively participate in business development initiatives and contribute to proposals as Project Lead where appropriate.
  • Adapt to handle changing priorities and respond systematically to critical situations
  • Assist in training junior staff and reviewing their work
  • Hold appropriate qualifications and industry recognition to support design certification sign‑off.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with external project stakeholders.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience designing mechanical systems within the building services industry with relevant design experience in HVAC systems
  • Australian Qualifications Framework - Bachelor Degree, Advanced Diploma or Diploma associated with Mechanical Engineering specialisation
  • Ability to read Architectural, Structural, Electrical drawings with minimal supervision provided by senior staff
  • Knowledge of thermal / heat load modelling and calculations
  • Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to work independently and take accountability for technical outcomes.
  • Demonstrated capability in multidisciplinary collaboration and coordination.
  • Organised and effective team member, able to work easily with others, and effectively delegate.
  • Experience working directly in Revit and producing coordinated, high‑quality design documentation is considered favourable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with a mentoring mindset and the ability to support the development of junior team members.
  • A proactive, commercially aware approach with an interest in contributing to business growth and long‑term team success.
