Job Description

As part of the Global Merchant & Network Services group (GMNS), the GMNS Product team is at the core of American Express, uniquely positioned to service every business unit and customer across the Enterprise. Each year, we power billions of transactions through our global payments network, serving our Issuing and Acquiring businesses in more than 170 markets worldwide. We are driving a strategic, multi-year transformation to modernize our Acquirer solutions to build innovative products, services, and capabilities that will anticipate our merchant and acquiring partner’s needs. This is a strategic priority for GMNS as it becomes increasingly important that we stay competitive with the rise of intermediaries, can quickly adapt to an ever-changing regulatory environment and are developing strong value-added services that deepen the relationships with our acquiring customers.

Reporting to the Director of Acquirer Platform Transformation (APT) – Product Management, the Associate Manager of Acquirer Product Management, offers the opportunity to help shape and advance a key strategic priority for the GMNS business. This team is responsible for advancing the strategic agenda for modernizing and transforming our Acquiring products and processes globally. This includes setting the strategy, defining future use cases, ensuring our current roadmap positions the business for the future, and identifying opportunities to deliver differentiated value to our Merchants and Partners. In this role, you will specifically focus on Payment products, supporting the end-to-end transaction lifecycle with an emphasis on Risk, Pricing, and Payment capabilities for acquiring merchants and partners.

  • Contribute to defining and executing the product strategy for products and services that deliver differentiated value and a seamless experience, enabling customers to expand into new markets and programs.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders and delivery teams, partnering cross-functionally to define trackable success metrics that enable analytics-driven decision-making and measure product performance post-launch to inform future investments, e.g., incremental revenue, cost reduction, competitive differentiation, and customer satisfaction.
  • Conduct discovery to identify market opportunities and user needs, and document clear, actionable requirements to support product development.
  • Shape and continually refine product priorities to build and maintain product roadmaps, including a well-managed backlog of features aligned to business and customer outcomes.
  • Gather and analyze feedback from internal and external customers and partners to create user journeys to help identify opportunities to remove obsolete or redundant payment experiences and suggest enhancements to improve user experience.
  • Partner with Acquiring Delivery Capability and Envisioning teams to guide the design, validation, and execution of innovative acquiring solutions, ensuring alignment with the product strategy and roadmap.
  • Background in end-to-end Product Management and an understanding of the payments industry, preferably including merchant acquiring; 1-3 years of experience in Product Management and/or Product Development preferred.
  • A strong balance of technical knowledge and business acumen, with a demonstrated ability to influence stakeholders, driving innovation, and delivering business metrics with a customer-first mindset.
  • High intellectual curiosity, with excellent creative and critical thinking and problem-solving skills and ability to deal with ambiguous or undefined problems.
  • Strategic and innovative mindset, with the ability to synthesize and translate market and industry trends into a clear product strategy and opportunities for AXP to deliver innovative solutions.
  • High energy, an optimistic attitude, eagerness to learn, high level of accountability and a good sense of humor.
  • Bachelor's (or comparable experience) in Business, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics or Marketing is highly preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to gather and interpret data to make informed product decisions.
  • Strong program and project management aptitude, with the ability to drive cross-functional execution and preferably including an understanding of Agile methodology and practices.
  • Strong aptitude for balancing multiple deliverables simultaneously, using effective prioritization and multi-tasking skills.
  • Flexibility and readiness to work within a global team.
  • Employment eligibility to work with American Express in the United States is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
