Summary:

The Associate, Major League Strength & Conditioning Coach is an associate level role designed to provide hands-on experience, education, and professional development within the New York Mets performance system. Based at Citi Field in Queens, NY, the associate will support the training and preparation of Major League players and assist with MLB rehab players in New York when the team is on the road, under the direction of the NY Mets Head Strength & Conditioning coach.

The associate will operate under the guidance and mentorship of the MLB Head and Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coaches and collaborate with Athletic Trainers, Physical Therapists, Registered Dietitians, and Sport Scientists. We intend for this role to help develop coaches who may be considered for future strength and conditioning opportunities within the organization’s player development system.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Support the MLB Strength and Conditioning (S&C) Coaches in developing and carrying out individualized player programs informed by objective assessments and positional demands
• Assist with the design and coaching of player and position specific energy system development programs
• Coach movement preparation, linear and multidirectional movement skills, speed, plyometrics, strength and power, corrective exercises, and recovery protocols under the direction of the MLB S&C Coaches
• Work with the MLB S&C Coaches and Sport Science staff to carry out established player readiness and workload monitoring protocols
• Assist Sport Science staff with athlete testing and data collection. Accurately record subjective and objective player information in the organization’s database
• Use the Athlete Management System to maintain current player records and support information transfers when players move between the Major and Minor Leagues
• Prepare weekly updates and assist with midyear and end of year performance testing reports for the MLB S&C Coaches
• Stay current with performance practices, seek feedback, and continue developing expertise in S&C and related performance disciplines
• Work proactively with S&C, Sport Science, Medical/Rehab, Nutrition, and baseball skills staff to support coordinated player care and development
• Build open, professional relationships with players and staff, keeping team and player development central to daily work

Qualifications & Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or a related field
• Current NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and CPR/First Aid certifications
• At least one year of relevant strength and conditioning experience, including substantial internships, mentorships and full-time roles
• Experience working with athletes in a team setting; experience in professional sports or Division I athletics is preferred
• Familiarity with long-term athlete development and individualized training programs
• Ability to coach linear and multidirectional movement skills and assist with aerobic and anaerobic conditioning programs
• Experience conducting or supporting periodic athlete performance assessments
• Commitment to continued professional development through education, workshops, or additional certifications
• Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with athletes, coaches, and performance staff
• A positive, collaborative approach and a willingness to help athletes achieve their goals
• Ability to work the flexible hours required by a Major League Baseball schedule

Desirable

• Experience working in baseball (Collegiate, MiLB, MLB) or high level college/professional sport
• Familiarity with athlete management systems, force plate systems, athlete positioning systems, velocity-based training equipment, and load cell/strain gauge-based testing devices

Hourly Rate: $22.00 - $25.00
